How to change an entire industry.
Up to recently, Brazilian book industry was focused on selling international best-sellers through print and channeling new writers to cheaper ebook formats.
The thing is ebooks were (and still are) read by less than 5% of the population. Over 95% still prefer print, which created a barrier for every new storyteller to reach their audience.
It was time to change that.
What did we do?1. Started the 1st Latin American self publishing company
that also sold in print
Authors publish their books online
(for free)
In the process, they establish how much they want to earn
per copy sold
Book price = authors rights + costs + CDA
fee
Book is sold in print
through CDA
Ebook version is distributed online
Each sale generates money to all the chain
(It’s a fairly simple business model)
2. Media acknowledgement drove access numbers upStarting a continuous flow of books published through the platform and allowing our team to
understand authors’ needs in order to deliver more products and services
This rapidly gained attention
3. So we added a services marketplace.(and, instantly, almost 1K professionals
selling their services to authors)
We understood authors needed more than publishing
4. We added vertical whitelabels.(allowing companies and groups to curate content
and attack different markets)
And that a certain amount of curation was needed
5. An entire business ecosystem
Rewards Programme
Distribution hubBadgesSocial integration
Talk shows
Collaborative innovation
What else?
10% all books
in Brazilhere.
Today, of
published per year
are
And 85% of self-publishing book market
belongs to Clube de Autores’ network.
ALL WE DID WAS THE OBVIOUS:
ALLOW STORYTELLERS TO TELL THEIR STORIES (WITH NO BARRIERS).
AND WE GREW BECAUSE OF THIS COMMITMENT TO A COMMUNITY OF STORYTELLERS.
How was our business ecosystem developed
How being a small start-up was a strategic asset
What will we cover in this panel?
How does our collaborative innovation process works to detect new opportunities
How we read trends and plan our future in a highly competitive and traditional market
This is our story.
