INTRODUCTION

Most of the people know that they are 2 types of Outboard motorengine such as 2 stroke and 4 stroke outboard engines. Althoughthese two posses same function to propel the boat, there are majordifference between them of working mechanism and also have itsown set of advantage and disadvantage of their own. Butnowadays boat owners are willing to buy boat with 4 strokeoutboard engine instead the 2 stroke one due to rising pollutionconcern.

The 4 stroke outboard engines are quite efficient motor than the 2 stroke ones. They offer quite and smooth performance to provide comfortable boat ride. Andthe most important difference is that it has better fuel efficiency compared to 2stroke that produce less smoke and pollution. Also have higher level of reliabilitythan 2 strokes of performance and function. These engines are better suited forbigger boats and some waters which require 4 stroke engines to propel the boat, since the work of the 2 stroke outboard engine is not enough for such waters. And that case the 4 stroke engines are best.

4 StrokeEngine

4-stroke outboard motor consists of an engine block which is made ofmachined still and on its centre there is a hollow cylinder. This cylinder iscritical to the functionality of the outboard. The piston is this engine isdesigned in can-shaped so as to fit in the cylinder precisely.

The rings that are there on the piston are to fit tightly against the walls ofthe cylinder. In the engine block, there is a crankshaft at the base. In orderfor the motor to operate, the piston should be connected to the crankshaft. The crankshaft of the engine is akin to the crank arms. In fact, it functionsmore or less in the same way.

Due to internal combustion the piston is pushed down with force.Carburetor is another important component of 4-stroke engines.Carburetor consists of butterfly valve for air and also needle valves whichare there for fuel. Both these components work together to provide aproper and perfect level of air and fuel into the cylinder.

BUILD

Valves play an important role in making this system work. The valves in the4-stroke outboard motor engine are mainly of two types and that is exhaustand intake. In the intake valve, when it opens it allows the air-fuel picture toenter in to the cylinder. Whereas the exhaust valve when opens, it allow theburnt fuel-air mixture to exit the cylinder. All this happens during the course

of 4-strokes.
