The TÜV organisations in Germany are rootedin the idea of industry practising “self-help”

At the end of the 19th century, industrial concerns joined to form associations to provide quality assurance in the manufacture and operation of steam boilers.

These so-called "DÜVs" eventually took over activities on behalf of government in all technical fields.

Through a series of mergers, the numerous small associations in Germany consolidated to form the present TÜVs.

TÜV NORD was formed in 2004.
