What is the Union Catalog?

Union Catalog is a shared

electronic catalog of 11 libraries of

national significance in Latvia, and

reflects various information

resources - books, magazines,

newspapers, pictures, maps, video

and audio recordings and

electronic resources.

Opportunities provided by the Union Catalog:

Searching for information resources;

Loan/requesting of informationresources;

Checking your user information;

renewing due date of library information resources;

Saved search results.

How to sign in Union Catalog?


1. Select Sign-in

2. Enter your user ID

number or barcode

3. Enter a verification (if

verification is forgotten, it

can be established in the

Library).

4. Activate Log On

How to search for information resources?

1. Select search criterion (field to search).

2. Type word or phrase for searching

3. Limit search to:

Language;

Year;

Format.

Pay attention

What is the meaning of „item status”?

Information resource loan:

Short term (3 to 5 days);

1 week;

1 month;

long-term;

night.

No loan:

In-library use;

Operating fund / for use on site

What is the meaning of „due date”?

On Shelf - available to request.

Date – loaned for another user.

Requested/Reserved - requested or reserved for another user.


How long does it take to receive the

requested information resource?

Requests are executed in order of their receipt.

Execution time is about 20 minutes (longer at the beginning of the semester).

Information view - My Library Card → Booking Requests or e-mail.

Information resources have to be picked up within 3 working days.

Requested items from the LUL Storage are delivered on Thursdaysto any of LUL branch libraries (have to be picked up within 6 working days).


What can you find in section My

Library Card?

LUL information can be found in column LUA50.

You can check:

Loans;

Loan History List;

Hold Requests;

Booking Requests;

Cash Transactions - details of payments and existing penalties.


How to renew due date of library

information resource? (1)


1. Activate “The number of loans” in the section My Library Card.

2. Activate information resource sequence number.

3. Activate “Renew” in the

section ‘Details for Loan’

Date of return can be renewed:

If item’s return isn’t overdue;

If item’s renewal isn’t

expired;

etc.

4. Due date of information resources may be renewed by activating “Renew All”

or “Renew Selected”.

Previous searches


View and use the previous searches results.

View - select and view previous searches results; Cross - narrow or expand the search; Delete - delete the results from the list.

Search history


1. Save searches -PreviousSearches → select previoussearch → activate Save.

2. Saved searches - History

In section History you can:

repeat search;

delete search.

My e-Shelf

If you are registered in the Union Catalog, you can save selected

records to keep them available after the end of the session as well.


Save selected resources:

select items and activate - Addto My e-Shelf;

open a detailed description ofthe information resource → activate Add to My e-Shelf.

In My e-Shelf you can:

save the selected records locally on your PC;

Send the selected records by e-mail; etc.

1. Activate Save/Mail;

2. Select record format;

3. Select encoding;

4. If you want to send the selected records by e-mail, enter an e-mail address in this field;

5. If you want to save the selected records locally on your PC, leave this field blank;

6. Activate “Go”.

Important information

You can request up to 25 items at any one time (i.e., make 25 reservation requests).

The limit on books from the stock of LUL for home lending is 30 books/items.

Information resources can’t be requested:

if you aren’t registered or re-registered here;

if you have an overdue penalty to pay.

The late returns fee is 0,20 Euro per day for each item of information resource

that is not returned by the due date.
