As another golfing season comes to an end it dawns on me I haven’t even played one round at one of my clubs. Every time I count up the number or rounds played each year it starts to horrify me the few I

actually play at my own clubs. The inefficiency is pathetic. With annual dues at most top clubs coming in at $10,000 to $35,000 (plus the dining penalties and other hidden charges) you have to play a lot of golf to justify the investment. If you’re not playing more than 20 rounds a year, value wise these are some of the most expensive rounds you’ll play. Sure you need

at least one great club on your CV to give you a basic reference when asked where you belong.
