STEP 1: WHAT ARE CULTURED PEARLS? The pearls sold in the market

are known as “cultured pearls” or to be called as “Natural pearls”. Many consumers and jewelers called it as Freshwater pearls as cultured pearls. But this is confusing because Tahitian, Akoya, South Sea and Freshwater pearls are all cultured pearls. To avoid this, familiar consumers and dealers will refer pearls by their exact pearl type.

STEP 2: WHAT TYPE SUITS YOUR STYLE AND BUDGET?

Select what type of pearl suits your style and budget. A strand of pearls can range from $40- $45,000+, so you need to understand the different types of pearls by their size, price range, color and shape.

STEP 3: SELECT THE RIGHT COLOR White is the classic, versatile

"Black" pearls are not actually black but dark shades of gray, greens and blues and give an exotic look that works especially well with darker skin tones. Pink, peach and lavender shades are perfect for spring and summer wear but when color matched correctly - an outfit can look incredibly sophisticated as well.

STEP 4: UNDERSTANDING THE VALUE FACTORS

When dealing with cultured pearls there are several factors that will determine the overall value of a pearl.

Shape: Shape is the biggest factor. The highest price is commanded by the round shaped pearls but most of the people like the uniqueness of baroque and off round pearls.

Surface: Another important factor of pearl is its surface. The cleaner the surface of the pearl shows its better quality.

Luster: It is related to the surface. The poor surface affects the luster of the pearl. A pearl’s luster makes a pearl “pop” and stand out.

Size: Last but most important factor is size and in the case of pearls size matters. Choose the pearls of 7mm and larger for adults and for teenager smaller than 7mm.
