Over the next few decades improvements to the function and the design of these locks have been greatly improved thanks to the improvements of technology. Combination locks are available in many different styles including multiple-dial locks and single-dial locks plus the mechanical keypad locks. Multiple Dial Multiple-dial locks are the simplest type of lock; they are commonly found securing bikes, briefcases and the occasional suitcase. This lock is considered to be one of the least secure types of combination locks due to the fact that it can be quickly opened without knowledge of what the correct password is. Multiple-dial locks are secured by a pin which has numerous teeth on it. The teeth then latch onto the rotating discs within the lock and when they align, that is when you are able to unlock the lock. Single Dial Single- dial locks are more commonly found on lockers or safes. This locks works by turning the dial clockwise and counter clockwise to the correct numerical code. Inside the lock there are several parallel disks, these disks all have notches or indentations which all line up allowing the latch the fit in and open the lock.

Over the next few decades improvements to the function and the design of these locks have been greatly improved thanks to the improvements of technology.

Combination locks are available in many different styles including multiple-dial locks and single-dial locks plus the mechanical keypad locks.

Multiple Dial

Multiple-dial locks are the simplest type of lock; they are commonly found securing bikes, briefcases and the occasional suitcase.

Single Dial

Single- dial locks are more commonly found on lockers or safes. This locks works by turning the dial clockwise and counter clockwise to the correct numerical code. Inside the lock there are several parallel disks, these disks all have notches or indentations which all line up allowing the latch the fit in and open the lock.

Mechanical

Another type of lock is the mechanical or electronic locks. These are more commonly used to secure work places and they are more practical due to the fact that you can distribute out a code for the employees to enter into the lock instead handing out a key to everyone. It is useful to change the code around every six months to prevent outsiders from entering your premises.
