Efflorescence

Efflorescence is a deposit of soluble salts, usually white in color, which can appear on the surface of masonry or concrete.

How Does Efflorescence Form?

Three circumstances must take place for efflorescence to form (without all three, efflorescence can not form). The circumstances are as follows:

1. Soluble salts must be present in the concrete or masonry.2. Moisture must be present (moisture can be present in the

air, on the surface, or in the concrete) to pick up the soluble salts and transfer them to the surface of the concrete or masonry.

3. Evaporation or hydrostatic pressure must cause the solution (salt and water) to move to the surface.

How To Remove Efflorescence

The most effective way to remove efflorescence is with the Armor Efflorescence Remover by Foundation Armor.

Unlike other cleaners, or the use of acids and pressure washing, the Armor Efflorescence Remover will remove efflorescence from the surface and from DEEP within the pores of the concrete or brick.

How To Stop Efflorescence

If there is moisture and salts present, efflorescence will continue to form UNLESS you seal the concrete or brick with one of the following sealers:

1. Armor S2000 (enhanced sodium silicate)2. Armor L3000 (enhanced lithium silicate)3. Armor SX5000 (enhanced silane/siloxane)
