Are you at risk for mail borne threats?
• Physical– Contain Chemical, Biological,
Radiation, Nuclear, or Explosive (CBRNE) materials
– Contain sharp objects, glass, waste
• Psychological– Hate mail
– Threats
Know to look for the red flags
• Explosive devices tend to be heavy and unevenly weighted
• Chemical threats containing liquids may slosh or feel “strange”
• Powders may leave a residue in the mail tray or on the screening work surface
Make sure your organization is ready
• Create a safe location for mail handling• Develop a chain of command for crisis
communication• Communicate all emergency contact
information• Post and communicate evacuation routes• Secure your work area
