WHO IS YOUR DAUGHTER BECOMING?Here's what I would like us to do.., parents.., as an introduction to this topic. Take a moment.., and ask yourself the following question;Who is "Your daughters name here" becoming?I say this as it is important that we don't underestimate certain things and I am not saying this to scare you parents, I simply want to drive the point home. While we are busy making a living, doing our best to provide for our daughters or maybe just simply preoccupied with our own challenges of balancing life.., work.., and family we are slowly losing the grip on our daughters and this is the truth.

Our daughters are faced with so many challenges out there, they get all sorts of negative influences and unfortunately they can't handle the pressure.

This challenges us as parents to take action and up our game

I've recently had a conversation with a parent, who was clearly frustrated about his 13 year old daughter having a cell phone, sharing with me his frustrations, his daughter would be on the cell phone until 1:00am chatting to other girls and least to say that, there are WhatsApp groups where girls match each other with boys that they don't even know or ever met themselves.

I must say, this is not new to me either, I've had moments when I check my daughters cell phone and find shocking things, which had made me ask myself a question to say, "do I even know my daughter?" At some point, I spent four hours in a conversation with my daughter around this very matter.

I must say I felt so helpless, as it seemed like I can't keep up with this. I know of parents that have ended up taking the cell phone away.., to try and manage the amount of time their daughter is spending on the cell phone or the influences from the groups.

CONTINUED….

But what if you can't really take away the cell phone? this could be because of many reasons, maybe you don't live with the other parent and your daughter needs to keep in communication with them, I mean.., there could be so many other reasons, but the question remains.

I would like to share how I resolved this matter with my 15 year old daughter, we had a very open conversation about this, I told her my concerns, my fears.., as a parent, in turn I tried to understand her own thinking and reasoning around this. Parents I can certainly tell you that this is highly important as it even changed our mother and daughter relationship. I then realized that.., being open and having these tough conversations is actually very good, it reduces a lot of stress. I am not advocating that we don't becoming responsible parents and check or even take away the cell phones away should situations call for this but I am saying let's move a level higher and build trust..,

where we don't necessarily have to sneak for information about what is going on but we build trust.., a strategy that my own mother used for years with me and my sister and I was not even aware of it then, she used to say "I trust you and I know you would not do anything that I didn't teach you to do" as parents let's learn to say..,

"I trust you daughter", and parents.., you don't have to have any concrete evidence to trust your daughter but you need to understand that this will outweigh anything that is negative and will promote healthy thoughts.., healthy thoughts will bring about what we really want. Remember  even if you have a reason not to trust you daughter begin to send out positive vibes and you will be amazed at what this can do.

"I trust you and I know you would not do anything that I didn't teach you to do" as

parents let's learn to say..,
