HELMET PLEASE! Wearing a helmet is proved to be the

single most effective way of reducing head injuries and fatalities from motorcycle, moped and bike crashes.

Bikers love to hit the road on two wheels. We all love the feeling of freedom, the ease of travel, the thrill, the cool, making the youth less likely to wear helmets shows research.

I travel extensively throughout the country.

Over the last months, I have witnessed and provided first-aid to so many victims of road accidents on the Maharashtra State Highways and in city.

We also read of deaths of bikers every day in newspapers.

Page 6: Road Safety in India: Helmet please

Besides, I myself had a road-accident on Jan-end and was saved of head injury just because of helmet but am temporarily incapacitated for last 2 months and cannot do any adventure activity for next month at least…

RESEARCHING ABOUT ROAD ACCIDENTS, I GOT THE STATISTICS:

Page 9: Road Safety in India: Helmet please

Each year, nearly 1.3 million people die as a result of road traffic collision- more than 3000 deaths each day- more than half of these people are bikers.

Page 10: Road Safety in India: Helmet please

20-50 million more people sustain non-fatal injuries from collision and these injuries are important cause of disability worldwide, with devastating impact on families and communities.

Page 11: Road Safety in India: Helmet please

Road traffic injuries are among the 3 leading causes of death for people between 15-44 yrs. of age.

Page 12: Road Safety in India: Helmet please

Unless immediate and effective steps are taken, road traffic injuries are predicted to become the 5th leading cause of death in the world resulting in an estimated 2.4 million deaths each year.

Page 16: Road Safety in India: Helmet please

THE MOST COMMON REASONS GIVEN BY PEOPLE (WHILE RIDING MOTORCYCLE, SCOOTER OR CYCLES) FOR NOT WEARING A HELMET:

Page 17: Road Safety in India: Helmet please

Reason Male Female

It is very hot and the helmet makes my head hotter Ü

Wearing the helmet makes me sweat a lot and that in turn damages my hair Ü Ü

I cannot my maintain my hair style Ü ÜI ride very carefully and have never met with an accident Ü Ü

My religion does not allow me to wear any such thing (helmet) Ü

My religious headgear is enough to save my head ÜThere is no police checking in this route ÜNowadays the police are too busy with other work so they have relaxed checking on riders not wearing helmets

ü

WELL, TO COUNTER THOSE ARGUMENTS:

Reason Counter argumentsIt is very hot and the helmet makes my head hotter

Your life is more precious than your

hairWearing the helmet makes me sweat a lot and that in turn damages my hairI cannot my maintain my hair styleI ride very carefully and have never met with an Accident

I  hope  you  never  meet  with  one

and  am  proud  of  your  driving skills.

But  most  accidents  occur  due  to other idiot drivers.

Apart  from  that  any  collision between  two  moving  vehicles travelling at the speed of 30 km/ph can result in fatality.

My religion does not allow me to wear any such thing (helmet)

Your  god  obviously  wants  you  to

live a safe and long life

My religious headgear is enough to save my headNowadays the police are too busy with other work so they have relaxed checking on riders not wearing Helmets.

Ride your luck till it lasts!!!!!

DO LET ME KNOW ABOUT OTHER REASONS THAT YOU MAY HAVE OR MAY HAVE HEARD FROM OTHERS FOR NOT WEARING HELMETS.

Page 22: Road Safety in India: Helmet please

When considering that a helmetless rider involved in an accident is three times as likely to suffer a brain injury as a motorcyclist wearing a helmet, wearing a helmet is a smart proposition.

Page 23: Road Safety in India: Helmet please

A helmet is the best protective gear you can wear while riding a motorcycle. A helmet will not only protect your head from a potential injury, but also cut down on wind noise, windblast on your face and eyes, and deflect bugs and other debris that flies through the air. It will also protect you from changing weather conditions and reduce rider fatigue.

WWW.ADVENTUREISHANI.COMLAST BUT NOT LEAST,

WEARING A HELMET IS A REFLECTION OF YOUR ATTITUDE TOWARD RIDING AND SHOWS THAT YOU ARE A RESPONSIBLE RIDER WHO TAKES MOTORCYCLE RIDING SERIOUSLY.
