REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS: WES INNOVATIVE LEADERSHIP TRAINING

Embed Size (px)

DESCRIPTION

The Women’s Enterprise for Sustainability (WES) program was designed by the Institute of International Education (IIE), is managed by a team in Tunis and San Francisco, and is implemented in collaboration with eight women-led/women-focused partner organizations in Tunisia. WES supports Tunisian women to launch and expand businesses through eight WES centers for entrepreneurship across six regions. Over the past two years, almost 1,000 women have been trained at WES centers, and over 160 have launched or expanded businesses. In anticipation of a likely expansion of the program, IIE seeks to engage a consultant to review, revise and deliver a central training to the program --the WES Innovative Leadership curricula. The goal of the review and revisions is not to have a major overhaul of the training. Rather, the aim is to modify the curriculum to the local context, as needed, to ensure that the training best meets the needs of WES entrepreneurs.

REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS: WES INNOVATIVE LEADERSHIP TRAINING

SUMMARY The Women’s Enterprise for Sustainability (WES) program was designed by the Institute of International Education (IIE), is managed by a team in Tunis and San Francisco, and is implemented in collaboration with eight women-led/women-focused partner organizations in Tunisia. BACKGROUND

The WES Innovative Leadership Training was developed by Barbara Fittipaldi, President and CEO, Center for New Futures. Inventing new possibilities – beyond those thought possible – and designing breakthrough results –are the central themes of the WES Innovative Leadership training. The training is designed to provide emerging and established women entrepreneurs with the power to transform themselves. Through a series of discussions and exercises, participants learn how to shift traditional/automatic thinking, change the way they listen and respond, and remove perceived barriers that keep us from following our dreams. They also learn a step-by-step process to design and implement breakthrough results. A powerful part of the WES leadership training is when participants declare their vision to the rest of the group– and participants listen generously with feedback on what resonates. For many women, this is the first time they have voiced their dreams, and the experience can be transformative. In January 2013, Barbara Fittipaldi led a Training of Trainers with 24 WES trainers. Since that time, many of the trainers have adapted the training to their own context, and the French translation has been improved. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES WES is hiring a highly experienced trainer/leadership curricula developer to

1. Research Phase: Review current curricula and gather feedback on the WES leadership training– what is working and what needs to be improved to best support women entrepreneurs.

2. Curricula Revision: Modify the WES Leadership training to the local context, based on feedback from WES trainers/staff;

3. Training: Develop a one-day Innovative Leadership training for new WES partners as they plan the launch of new WES centers using a cost-recovery model.

4. TOT: Design and deliver a three-day Innovative Leadership TOT with new WES trainers.

The one-day Innovative Leadership training (3 above) is for the new partners' management staff. This would help them to think outside the box and dream big when thinking about how they would approach the WES model (developing a center using a cost-recovery model, marketing the center, etc.). They would go through the Innovative Leadership workshop (an abridged version), but not learn how to deliver the workshop.

The TOT (4 above) is for the WES trainers on how to deliver the innovative leadership training to women. This will happen at a later training workshop (month 4).

Research Phase The consultant will review Barbara Fittipaldi’s Innovative Leadership curriculum, and the curricula that WES trainers have adapted, and interview WES staff, trainers and entrepreneurs about their experience with the training. Keeping in mind the specific target profiles of WES entrepreneurs, the consultant will identify a) which aspects of the curricula have worked particularly well; b) which aspects need to be modified/updated; and c) what new curricula/activities needs to be developed/added to strengthen the leadership training and best meet needs of WES entrepreneurs.

Curricula Revision Phase The consultant will revise the WES Innovative Leadership module based on feedback from WES trainers, staff and entrepreneurs. The training should be modified, where needed, to the Tunisian context and the specific needs identified through discussions with staff, trainers and entrepreneurs. This is not meant to be a major curriculum revision, and the central themes of the training should remain. The training should encourage entrepreneurs to dream big, invent new possibilities – beyond those thought possible – and design
