DESCRIPTION

Slides from a confidence and values workshop led as the third part of a four-part series given at CoCo Minneapolis by Kate O'Reilly to support Google for Entrepreneurs' #40forward initiate, which aims to rethink the gender gap in startups and entrepreneurial communities. A panel and one exercise were done within the session to better connect the attendees -- another goal is to create a supportive, ongoing community that meets regularly and communicates daily for better progress.

A sampling of questions asked of the panel: !Identifying your most natural strengths and talents can be a huge part of self acceptance. Did you find this to be true? Did you find out new things about yourself in the process? !Angie would love to hear how you get through the stress when logic and reason seems to have taken a vacation. !What were your go-to activities or people in times of white-knuckled stress? Everybody has some of the unhealthy sometimes (self-medicating,etc) what were some of the healthy? !What inspires them when they want to quit/give up? How do they stay motivated/inspired and keep up the momentum. !Self-acceptance encourages you to accept your limitations. Without self-acceptance, you see limitations as obstacles; with self-acceptance, you see limitations as opportunities. For example, if you can accept that you aren't strong enough to do something by yourself, an opportunity presents itself for you to receive extra help. Who did you look to in your community to support you and what common qualities did these people have? !How do you deal with apologies and misdirected empathy about what happened -- from people around you will also have to cope and you have to deal with that. And you want to do that less than ever. !How and when do you explain special personal circumstances to your clients or boss when they interfere with your business? !Amanda is wondering how to appropriately communicate with worrying from family/friends about your situation, or how to best put it out of your mind so it doesn't wear at you? WORRY LOOP is ACTIVATED. The Worry Loop, however, is exhausting and unhelpful. !People who practice self-acceptance are radically honest with themselves. They are willing to be accountable for their part in every situation. Did you find this to come easily or did you fight it?

Exercise for Learning Acceptance

1) Write down 10 ways you are not currently being very loving to yourself. (Lack of sleep, too much work, negative self talk, poor eating, etc) !!2) Go back through your list, take a look at each point and imagine what would happen if you stopped doing this. Write down one example of how your life be better. !!3) If you’re having trouble with #2, first write how it would change or better the lives of the people around you.
