Optimising your search engine has nothing to do with search engine optimisation. Instead, it is about one of the many functions of something with incredible power: your brain.

The brain is like a search engine that taps into a database – your subconscious – and automatically searches for answers when you ask yourself a question.

Here is an easy example to demonstrate this.

What is it?

You wake up in the morning and think, “What shall I have for breakfast?” What immediately comes to mind is the image of a cup of coffee with toast or a full breakfast on the side. And that’s it! Your brain has answered your question.

However, like any search engine, the quality of the answer that comes out depends on the quality of the enquiry that goes in.

Imagine that you have friends visiting. who need a hotel near where you live. If you google ‘hotel’, you’ll get an endless list of information, hardly related to a suitable location. But, if you enter ‘4-star hotel in London W1’, you will get more targeted answers to your enquiry.

... asking yourself “What shall I do?” will only lead your brain to come up with vague answers, just like when you search for ‘hotel’ on Google. How much use can this be?

If you ask yourself “Have I got any chance of saving my business?”, your brain may only come up with four answers: yes, no, maybe or don’t know. Again, how helpful is this?

However, asking yourself “What can I do FIRST to start saving my business?” triggers your brain to search for specific ideas that you can use to start saving your business.

Yes! That’s what your brain does, among many other things.

So, make the most effective use of this natural function of your brain by posing the right questions to get better responses for what you want to achieve, in both your business and your life.
