NASA ‘s Innovative Partnerships Program (IPP) Office
• Prizes, Challenges, and Grants
• Partnerships
Annually, the IPP puts $250,000 on the table for their IPP Seed Fund. This competition calls for innovative ideas from each of their 10 centers with proposed partnering. Of the 100 or so funding applications, 10 or 20 or selected for testing. Essentially, the IPP money is tripled as NASA Center and a third party must match.
Department of Education’s Office of Innovation

• Idea Generation• Creative Funding
Strategies
The Department of Education has developed an innovation portal for people to come together to identify the best ideas to improve schools. Education stakeholders of all types can spotlight areas of need, propose and suggest improvements to solutions, and fund, implement, and improve these solutions in and outside of the classroom.
Department of Homeland Security, TSA’s Business Transformation and Culture (BTC)
• Idea Generation• Developing
Human Capital
BTC was the driving force of transforming the culture of DHS. With a focus on collaboration, enhancing the quality of leadership, and empowering employees and their engagement levels, BTC pushed forward on training programs and launching of senior knowledge management efforts to meet these goals. This office launched IdeaFactory at TSA.
DOT is moving full steam ahead to create a culture of innovation…
• To date our efforts have been focused on Open Government to demonstrate the value of innovation efforts.
• However DOT is actively indentifying new ways to broaden it’s thinking and strategies to create a culture of innovation.

• The DOT released version 1.0 of our high-value data inventory as of September 30, 2010 on www.dot.gov/open/data.
• The list identifies a large set of raw data and other information we hope will be of interest to the public.
• The DOT high-value data inventory has been scored in accordance with our Interim Identification & Prioritization Process and Guidelines (v1.0).
• Data inventories are a critical first step in creating an innovation ecosystem around data.

DOT’s IdeaHub Program furthers the principles of innovation and openness within the walls of DOT
• IdeaHub is an online community for DOT employees that facilitates collaboration throughout the DOT, including both the Office of the Secretary and the Operating Administrations (OAs).
• The program and website (www.DOTIdeaHub.gov) launched August 3.
• IdeaHub is more than a Website; ideation requires resources to evaluate and implement great ideas.

Read the President’s Strategy for American Innovation.
Identify other innovation leaders in you agency.
Bring those innovation leaders to these cross-agency events.
Broaden the conversation to one of innovation.
Leverage Open Gov pilots as success stories for innovation.
Don’t limit yourself!!
So how does this all apply to the Open Government Community at large?
I
