Making a Felt Crown
You will need
• Paper for pattern (anything from tracing paper to yesterday’s form guide)
• Felt (2 x 14cm x 49.5cm)
• 7.5 cms x 50mm wide Elastic
• Trims and decorations – beads, buttons etc
Getting Started
Draw your pattern onto paper. My crown has quite a few peaks. You could draw your pattern with fewer but wider peaks – or try squares instead of triangles. The straight bottom should approximately 49 – 50 cms, with the peaks reaching up to 14cms. You will also need 1 cm seam allowance on either end of crown
Cutting Felt
• Cut 2 of crown pattern (1 outside, 1 inside) and cut 7.5cms of elastic
• ***I haven't tried it yet but you could also cut out one crown of interfacing and sew or iron on the wrong side of one of the crown pieces.
Adding decoration
• Affix trims and decorations to outside piece of felt. I laid the jewels out on the other piece so I could keep track. Depending on your trims, you can machine or handstitch.
Sewing in elastic
• With right sides facing in, pin one end of elastic inside the two pieces of felt. Sew and
secure (one straight stitch, finished with zigzag).
Sewing in elastic
• With crown still inside out, pin unattached end of elastic between the other end of the crown. Sew as before.
Oversew & Finish
• Turn the crown so the trims etc are facing outward. Pin and stich around outside edge. For this crown, I started at one of the back peaks and used a gold thread to zigzag the whole way around.
The Finished Product
• Ta DAH!!!!
