How to Download Files with Torrents

NOTE: I AM NOT PROMOTING ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES

I REPEAT:

I do NOT support the illegal download of any file. This slideshow is for demonstrative purposes in the explanation of Bittorrent ONLY.Support your musicians, directors, authors, and producers: WORK, GET MONEY, AND BUY YOUR DANG MUSIC.

Torrent?

A torrent is metadata used for BitTorrent.

BitTorrent is a peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing protocol used for distributing large amounts of data. BitTorrent is one of the most common protocols for transferring large files, and it has been estimated that it accounts for approximately 27-55% of all Internet traffic (depending on geographics)

STEP 1:Downloa

dA Client

-----Just as Limewireis software, you need torrent software to use. Click the logo to go to the download page.

Transmission (Mac only) Bittorrent

uTorrent Azureus aka “Vuze”

Note: I prefer uTorrent so therefore I recommend it!

STEP 2:

Get Some!

Torrents, that is…

-----You can search

within your client/software

for stuff to download, but

this way is better for me and easier

to follow.

Click over there to go to torrentz.com

Type in what you want, including:-music-movies-games-softwareEx: I searched for a band called the XX

Then hit “search”

Ignore these

This is what you want

STEP 3:Choosing and Downloading a Torrent

This is how to make sure that you get what you want (your music, etc) not what you don’t (viruses and the like).

This means it’s the album “The XX” by the XX, and it is a 2-CD Bonus Edition in 320kbps (aka High Quality).This stuff comes with experience; you can ignore it for now, just click on what you want! Then this shows up ------------------------------

IGNORE ALL OF THIS FOR NOW :)

When you get here, choose a recent one(dates listed to right)

I usually choose thepiratebay.org but that’s up to you, really

STEP 4:Download that, sucka!

Make sure its all clear to download, then bombs away!(The below example is from the Pirate Bay but the guidelines are for all sites)

Size: If your Blu-ray quality movie is less than 400mb or your 320kbps music is 4mb large, chances are it’s a virus.--------------------Download: Only click on links that say “Download Torrent” cuz this big old button for example is fake

Seeders and Leechers:Seeders are people putting the file out, leechers are people downloading the file. The higher the Seeder to Leecher ratio, the faster the download. You become a Seeder after you’re done, FYI------------------------------Comments: ALWAYS read if there are any comments; they could hint at problems with the file or viruses, etc

STEP 5:Into your

client-----

Now that you downloaded

the .torrent file, you have to open

it up in your program/client to start the actual download of the

file.

When downloading in chrome, this is what it looks like. Open the torrent file you just downloaded and your client should load (I use Bittorrent as shown below)

This shows the files you are gonna Download. Click OK

STEP 6:

Within the client

-----Now that you

have started the download of the actual files, this

is how to understand the

interface

Whilst Downloading:-you can speed up! right-click on the file, go to bandwidth allocation, and choose “high”

After Downloading:-Go to the default download folder (Options-->Preferences-->Directories if you don’t know) or simply right-click on the file and choose “Open File Location”-You can delete the file from the list (and the torrent file cuz you don’t need it anymore) from the right-click menu

DONE!Go eat a cookie.
