Sweet, sweet indulgence…

Making truffles are not only easy, they’re fun to make at home as well.

Simply follow this easy guide to make these yummy treats that can be sent out on any occasion- be it Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day or even a chocolate lover’s birthday.

Break the chocolate to piecesChop or break a chocolate bar (200 g) so that it melts more quickly and evenly.

Melt the baking chocolateOnce your chocolates are broken into pieces, use a microwave oven to melt them.

Tip for microwaving chocolateMicrowave at Medium temperature for 30 secs at a time, stirring after each heating. Keep doing this until the chocolate is melted and smooth when stirred.

(Remember to put the chocolate in amicrowave-safe container/ bowl)

Whisk away!Stir in the melted chocolate and whisk the content constantly until it begins to resemble a brown coloured cream.

Take a rest. Now your mixture can go into the refrigerator while you wait for it to cool and firm. This process takes approximately an hour.

One hour later…You can now remove the truffle mixture (expect a hard surfaced content). Scoop and shape the mixture into 30-32 balls.

The amount depends on how big you want your truffles to be. We suggest using a sorbet scoop or a melon baller to shape them into perfect balls.

Roll your truffles into ballsQuickly roll the mixture into balls and place them on a wax paper-covered tray. The mixture melts very quickly in the hands so you need to work fast. You can get a friend to help you with the rolling to expedite the process.

Melt the remaining chocolateYou can put your truffle balls in the refrigerator to firm up while you proceed to melt the remaining chocolate (1 ½ chocolate bars or 300 g).

Dip truffles in melted chocUsing two forks, dip the truffles into the melted chocolate. Do this with care as it can be rather tricky.

Decorate your trufflesNow you can decorate your truffles by sprinkling sugar decorations, cocoa powder, cinnamon, finely-crushed peanuts, etc.) .

If you wish to coat your truffles entirely in cocoa powder, you can leave the decorating for after it’s hardened in the fridge

(which is in our upcoming slides).

Put your truffles back into the fridgeOnce again, refrigerate your truffles for yet another hour. When the time is up, your truffles would harden.

You can also prepare some tiny cupcake cups to hold and make your truffles more presentable too.

Savour your trufflesIf you’ve not decorated your truffles, coat them in cocoa powder. You are now ready to indulge in your homemade truffles. The outer shell should be hard while the inside (ganache) has a creamy and softer texture.

Pack your truffles and give them to your Valentine…

Now that you have your truffles ready, you can pack them into boxes. Candy boxes can easily be found at craft stores and are easy to put together. You can give these delicious chocolate truffles as a gift to your Valentine or loved ones… or have them yourself since you deserve it!
