Outline
• Eco-innovative pilot and Market Replication
projects
• 5 priority areas
PLACE PARTNER’S LOGO HERE
Ecoinnovation : “All forms of innovation reducing environmental impacts and/or optimising the use of resources”
New processes, products, techniques, services
Pilot and market Replication projects :
First application: help eco-innovative ideas reach the market (create the market)
Replication: wide market application (enlarge the market)
Eco-innovative pilot and Market Replication projects (1)
• Bridge the gap between RDT and commercialisation
• Focus on private sector and SME
• Life Cycle Approach
• Leverage factor and replication
Key ideas
Eco-innovative pilot and Market Replication projects (2)
What is not funded
• No RTD projects (-> FP7)• No public-oriented projects (-> LIFE+)• No energy-focused projects (-> Intelligent Energy Europe)• No awareness-raising or dissemination projects • No mere promotional or marketing activities
Eco-innovative pilot and Market Replication projects (3)
• Materials recycling
• Sustainable building products
• Food and Drink
• Greening businesses
• Water (NEW !)
5 priority areas
5 priorities
Materials recycling
• Improve quality of recycling materials: better waste sorting and treatment methods
• Innovative products using recycled material or facilitating material recycling
• Business innovations to strengthen the competitiveness of recycling industries: new market structures for recycling products, processes and services
Types of ongoing projects
• Recycling Processes/Technologiese.g. sensor-based sorting and separation methods, advanced recovery of metals
from waste, recycling of carbon nanotubes etc.
• Products from Recycled Materialse.g. Plastic waste into urban furniture, paper mill sludge into absorbent cleaning
materials, ceramic tiles waste into asphalt cement etc.
• Recycling Servicese.g. integrated management system for maintenance, dismantling, collection, reuse
and recycling of artificial turf pitches, collection, treatment and recycling of
carpet waste, nappy waste etc
Sustainable building products
• Construction products and related processes that reduce consumption of resources, embodied carbon and production of by-product waste
NEW! → Projects on the addition of various types of fly and bottom ashes in concrete and mortar are not covered under 2011 Call
Types of ongoing projects
• New construction products/materialse.g. Insulation materials using recycled waste (EAMT, Insulat FH), environmentally
& health friendly materials (ECBP)
• Innovative water systems (including water
saving and reuse)e.g. System for leakage detection, reuse of grey water for non potable water
demand (AutoLeak, Cyprobell)
Food and Drink
• Cleaner products and processes aiming at higher ressource efficiency, reduction of waste, increasing recycling/recovery• New or improved production processes with high water efficiency and quality• Cleaner products, processes and services targeting the environmental impact of consumption : logistic services, distribution, purchasing decisions
Types of ongoing projects
• Industrial waste water treatmente.g. Filtering systems, reduction of sewage sludge surplus from treated water etc.
• Bio-waste reuse/treatmente.g. To produce fertilizers and other valuable by-products
• Food packaginge.g. Sustainable materials for bottle, bottle stoppers, nets
Water
• Water efficient processes, products and technologies (water-free processes)
• Water and wastewater treatment
• Smart distribution systems aiming at the saving of water, chemicals, energy and materials
Green business/Smart purchasing
• Green products and services (LCA, ecodesign)
• Substitution of materials by materials with reduced environmental impacts
• Clean production processes (industrial symbiosis)
• Gradual innovation: re-manufacturing mechanisms, innovative repairing services…
Types of ongoing projects
• Clean production processe.g. Ecofriendly leather tanning (without chromium), eco-friendly car seats
• Substitution of materialse.g. New bio-plastifc for sport shoes made out of oil plants, a green storage medium
for CD/DVD
• Gradual innovatione.g web-based ICT solution for trading old and new pallets
