Iphone: How to minimize mobile data usage

If you are not in a unlimited data plan then you must concern about data usage. Here are few tricks to follow for minimizing the data usage in your smartphone. This includes turning off unnecessary apps, restricting background refreshing of apps, individual app settings change and turn off data usage.

Turn off certain app

First Locate Settings and Mobile. Now you could see the “Mobile Data Usage” Section. Here you will find the list of App using mobile data. By default these apps are enabled and consume mobile data. But you can stop certain apps from consuming mobile data by turned it off. But these apps are able to use wi-fi network when available.

Change settings of individual App

Some apps like Dropbox, have its own settings which can restrict particular functions to Wi-Fi only. This app could be a big data hunter if you use it to back up videos and photos from iPhones’s camera roll. But good news is that, there is a settings tab in Dropbox app through which you could disable mobile data. Disabling it will prevent the app from uploading videos while there is no Wi-Fi connection.

Disable background app refresh

Background App Refresh is good feature shows you latest news, weather or other info when you launch them. These apps regularly update or refresh themselves in

background. So these apps needlessly consume mobile data if you don’t open those regularly. So you could stop

these apps from launching. Settings -> tap in General -> scrolling down to Background App Refresh-> Disable the feature

altogether or you could prevent a specific app form refreshing in background

Turn off mobile data

The most easy or effective way of minimizing your mobile data usage is to enable internet

connection only when it is necessary. To do so, you need a trip to Settings App. Turn off the

mobile data.
