Innovation is to make (something) new or to do something in a new way.

It  is finding a better way of doing something.

What is ?

Page 3: Waste Management

The concept of waste management involves the collection, removal, processing, and disposal of materials considered waste.

Waste materials can be solid, gaseous, liquid, or even hazardous and are generally generated through human activity.

What is Waste Management ?

Page 4: Waste Management

Proper waste disposal is of great importance to both rural and urban areas. Not doing this may bring us to danger in many ways and surely everybody knows this. Time and again, people are always being educated about the importance of waste disposal but then this process should not stop because every now and then, people forget.

Some of the kids grow, even if they have learned the proper way of disposing the waste someday they will still forget about it. Big thanks to the people who make effort to spread the word and continue to be of service to other people. As a matter of fact, we can see to it that it’s not that easy to be in their situation because sometimes, most of them work voluntarily.

Why is it done?

Page 5: Waste Management

Waste disposal is now the main problem being face by the world today. If we look closely, sometimes nature takes its turn on us and that’s what we should be concerned about. Sometimes even in the so called developed countries we can still see some trash scattered. We can also notice some people burning their trash in the backyard and they think it’s the easiest way to get rid of waste but they are totally wrong because they are just making a faster way to destroy the nature.

In Satyamev Jayate Season 2 Episode 3 we see how animals have a way of working in harmony with nature and C Srinivasan is using that to create waste-free society. Do you know cows, pigs, insects and frogs can be our best friends when it comes to garbage management? Find out how in this section where C. Srinivasan, project director of environmental organization Indian Green Service talks about the well known Vellore Model he has developed, which is being followed in many states across India.

The show highlighted that animals can also contribute in recycling of waste. Vellore's C. Srinivasan's (Project Director IGS) innovative idea of using animals in recycling of waste is brilliant. Vellore's model showed the world how animals can also play an important role in waste management. He also urged for the need of SLRM centre (Solid and liquid resource management centre) in different parts of our country and also said that decentralization is an important technique used in waste management.

We get to know…

Foreign(Sweden)

•A machine was developed to gamify(make a game) the activity of collection of waste bottles, so that people are just not rewarded with a good conscience but also get a smile in return.

•Bottle bank arcade glass recycling is a innovation in which a glass bottle collection bin was refitted to resemble an arcade machine in Sweden

More About it

• Many of us return our plastic bottles and cans. Noticeably fewer recycle their glass. Maybe that's because we don't get any money in return, as we do for cans and plastic. Can we change this attitude by making recycling glass fun to do? So you are not just rewarded with a good conscience, you also get a smile.

• We’ve always believed that our children will learn how to recycle and care for the environment quite quickly if fun is injected into the teaching-learning process by parents. Obviously, we adults tend to also absorb ideas faster or change our habits for the better if there’s fun in doing it.

The Result…

•People were so amused and inspired by the idea that in one single evening, over one hundred people used the arcade machine/recycler compared to just two people using an ordinary bottle bank nearby. I imagine people searching all over their houses for empty glass bottles to deposit and recycle, just to be able to play the contraption.

Similarities:-

•Both are done to reduce waste.•Idea is easy and effective.•Idea is innovative and productive.

Page 16: Waste Management

Difference:-

Indian Innovation Foreign Innovation

The waste used is biodegradable. The waste used is non-

biodegradable.

Use of animals. Use of technology(arcade

machine).

The Indian Innovation is

economically beneficial.

The other one is interesting and

as said brings smile on face.

Wet-waste is used. Solid-waste is used.
