Sentinel-3 Land / Sea masks (1/2)

Land/sea masks apply to Level 2 products only. Level 1 products make no

distinction, and provide the mask as annotation data.

Optical products (OLCI, SLSTR, Synergy): land and water masks are fully complementary

and do not overlap. Major lakes are flagged as “sea”.OLCI Level 2 Products: The Land and Water split

Altimetry products (SRAL): masks do overlap inside and outside the coastline.

SRAL Subsatellite Track

SRAL Level 2 Marine Products will contain

information sensed over the white area (Open

Ocean and Sea-Ice) and the green area (Coastal

zones and part of the land within a certain

distance from the coastline)

SRAL Level 2 Marine and Land Products are split according to the figure below

SRAL Level 2 Land Products will contain

information sensed over the black area (Land)

and the green area (Coastal zones and part of

the land within a certain distance from the

coastline)

Coastal Area (up to 300km from the

restriction of the CCSDS XML Formatted Data Unit (XFDU)

specific for the Sentinel-3 mission.
