DESCRIPTION

Brest is setting a benchmark worldwide in the field of oceanographic research and marine technology, and has created an event to match its reputation by bringing to the city every two years leading experts in various marine-related disciplines. Brest is a global platform for marine sciences and is the centre for 60% of French research in this field. For this reason, Sea Tech Week is held in Brest every two years and brings together international experts in marine science and technology. Since its launch in 1999, the event has become increasingly successful and well known. Attracting more than one thousand delegates, 40% of them from abroad, Sea Tech Week has become one of the biggest European gatherings in the field of marine science. Moreover, it has established a partnership with a learned society: the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), ensuring an event in Europe alternates with the international Oceans Conference. Sea Tech Week is the result of the work of research bodies based in Brest: Ifremer, ENSTA Bretagne, UBO, Telecom Bretagne, etc. What makes Sea Tech Week different is the diverse range of disciplines associated with marine science and technology and of event participants. Researchers, economists, legal experts and representatives of industry and institutions meet to provide an update on the latest scientific discoveries, technological advances and economic and legal issues. For five days, Sea Tech Week provides a unique forum for exchange, which is further enhanced by the organising of parallel sessions, workshops, professional trade fair and technology presentations. In 2014, Sea Tech Week will focus in particular on deep sea challenges, through the organisation of the main conference: Deep Blue Days Sea Tech Week is organised by Brest métropole océane urban council in partnership with the driving forces of the Brest territory.
