There are lots of butterflies in the world.

There are also lots of different

caterpillars.

This is a Cabbage White butterfly and a Cabbage White caterpillar. What do you think they like to eat?

Cabbages!

Today we are going to look at the life cycle of a Monarch butterfly.

This picture shows the butterflies mating.

This shows a single Monarch egg attached to a leaf.

What to you think is going to hatch out of this?

The egg hatches and out comes the Monarch caterpillar.

It moves around looking for food to eat.

The caterpillar eats until it if full and then makes a chrysalis around itself.This can also be called the pupa.

Something magical is about to happen!

Can you see what has happened?

The cycle is complete and we can see a beautiful butterfly.
