Silk Georgette Fabric for Formal Women Wears
Silk georgette fabric as its name implies, is a textile traditionally made from silk though synthetic fibers
such as polyester are sometimes also used for the same. Its crinkly crepe-light texture makes it
distinctive from other fabrics available in the market. However, this texture feels slightly dull and rough,
but at the same time gives the fabric a flowing and bouncy look. The crepe like texture makes it very
springy so that it appears to move by itself.
Tightly woven threads of this fabric give it an appearance of slightly sheer as the threads are very thin
and so highly twisted that the material crackles when relaxed. Unlike fine silks, the georgette fabric is
also usually strong and holds up well to various kinds of wears. Since, this fabric is made up from silk
which is highly absorbent, georgette fabric can easily be dyed or colored in a myriad of colors and also
printed with a pattern.
This fabric is a very much
popular choice for women’s
fashions in which flowing, clingy
like European linen fabric are
favored. Since, it is light in
weight silk georgette fabric is
thin and can be used as a layer
in a larger garment without
being bulky or heavy. Several
designers use this fabric for a
fanciful effect especially in
gowns. Beautiful bridal wears
for evening wedding occasions and also a few formals are made up of European linen fabric and that
make them look flowingly flawless.
Silk georgette fabric is in itself so soft, colorful and beautiful that there is no requirement to decorate it
to give it more attractive and beautiful look. And if still trying to decorate it with beads or other
decorative material, it can spoil the beauty and also pull the material down with the weigh as itself it is
very light weight. But in case, if you want to decorate it, then embroidery may be used. Please note that
decorations are usually kept simple so that they don’t drag the texture down and pull the garment out
of shape.
Furthermore, the material is slightly slippery and makes it difficult for your designer or tailor to stitch it
and that’s why they prefer to sew it with the help of tissue paper or something similar on the fabric to
keep pieces of the fabric together. Evening outfits, wedding gowns, and other formal wear are
sometimes made with georgette fabric. In addition, this fabric is also used to make shirts, jackets, and
other casual outfits usually for women. Many experts suggest that silk georgette fabric must be washed
in cold water with mild detergent and remember to keep it out of the sun to avoid fading at the time of
dry.
