Unit 2 Assignment 1

IntroductionI am going to prepare a training document; the business I am going to describe the recruitment documentation for is Tesco.

Tesco is a supermarket with various stores around England; it was first opened in the east end of London in 1919 by Jack Cohen. Tesco took over a chain of 212 stores in the northern England in 1960. Tesco.com was launched in 2000 and in 2010 they opened the first zero-carbon supermarket. As of February 2010 there are 5380 stores, also as of 2010 the amount of employees they have is 472000. Tesco sells various products such as groceries, telecoms, financial services and consumer goods.

Recruitment and selectionRecruitment and selection refers to the sequence of events related to finding the necessary people that are compliant with the work that is required to be completed. It is critical to find staff that are suitable to making the key decisions and that have the determination to work with their employees and employers. There are several ways that a business will try to gather potential staff. The traditional method now has to compete with the methods of recruitment based on the internet. An example of this may be that one of the traditional methods is newspaper advertisement, to combat new internet based methods they may post an online form of which can be used to apply or a web page pop-up. It is also true that applications online are far more of ease for the employers and potential staff members. This is because they can see the amount of people that have visited the website and how many have applied for the job placement, also by using online applications the information can be processed straight into computer software.

Reasons for recruitmentThere are a vast amount of reasons why businesses have to recruit and select their staff members, these members of staff need to be suitably skilled in the skills required for the job. Without staff that have the correct qualifications for the job the business will require additional help and may struggle to operate, if it continues in this way they will start to lose money. To make sure the business has the correct staff they need to first of all get the attention of the right staff that have the qualifications and determination to complete this job, while the staff that have been recruited they may not have all the qualifications in order to be perfect at their job and may need to train while working, another time they will need to train while working is if they were working towards a promotion as they would require more skills and more independence with their work.

Types of recruitment documentationJob advertisement

The information that will be most likely included in a job advertisement would first of all be the name of the organisation or business and other things included will include the title of the job such as what they will be, an example is; accounts manager, there could be a possibility that the salary is

Lewis Appleton 1 Mr McColgan

Unit 2 Assignment 1

also listed as many people will be wondering what pay they get. I have also seen job advertisements that have the working hours on and some say the salary is based on qualifications or is subject to change.

The information included in a job advertisement is aimed at the people with the qualifications for the job, these people may be people who have just finished university and therefore will need income to pay off their student loan, businesses may see that people are desperate to get a job and therefore will lower the salary or heighten the qualifications and expectations.

Tesco would use a job advertisement to recruit people that are able to work for them with the required personal skills and employability skills. They will put advertisements in places such as radio stations, their internet website, local newspapers and television channels to increase awareness of the job position they are offering. They will possibly include the places that are recruiting, the type of job positions available and the skills needed. They may also include working hours and salaries and a list of some of the employability skills which would increase the chance of getting the job.

Job description

A job description will likely reveal how to apply for the job, included details will include first of all the type of job that is available, the budget that the business has set for recruitment will determine the way in which vacancies are advertised, also the language (as in levels of formality and amount of letters) and the font style that has been used within the advert. An example of where these would be advertised is a local newspaper; the advertisers will be charged per word and therefore will want to make their advertisement short and quick to the point.

The purpose of a job description is to show the possible place for staff members and the values that they will attain, the description will have to be able to catch the eye of potential employees and will need to be specific and to the point so that people will not give it a quick glance and not bother with applying for the job.

Job descriptions are possibly aimed at people who are in need of quick work, therefore the advertisement may be in a local newspaper, job descriptions will be aimed at older people than the job advertisements are because they are smaller and directly tell you where to apply, this may be an advantage for people who are past university and are looking for full time work.

Tesco would use a job description to recruit people that are possibly in need of a quick job and the description of the job may possibly be in a newspaper that is local to the shop recruiting. Whereas job applications are aimed at younger adults, job descriptions are aimed at people that are older because they are more direct and to the point in a small description. Tesco want to use this to recruit people that want to work for them when they are past university and possibly looking for a full time job to pay off their loan because Tesco would be able to get more employees this way.

Application form

Job applications are an alternative to a CV and are usually more related to the work, there may be a questionnaire attached that will determine if the candidate is successful in applying for the work position, the application form may also ask for a personal statement asking why the candidate wants the job position. Included are boxes to be filled out for the name, house phone number, birth date,

Lewis Appleton 2 Mr McColgan

Page 3: Recruitment and selection

Unit 2 Assignment 1

mobile number, current living address and an email address. Other things that may be asked for are; educations and qualifications, previous employment and work experience and references to which people can talk about how you will be suitable for the work position.

There are alternatives to job application forms such as curriculum vitae(CV), sending out a CV will allow the employer to see first of all whether you have the qualifications, then they might see if you are experienced enough to do the specific work. If the CV is read and the business agrees they may have a placement for the applicant then they may schedule an interview to see if they are employable and will be able to ask questions in further detail.

A business needs to collect the information from a job application to see if the applicant is suitable for the job, they require personal information so they can contact the person if they are successful. Education and qualifications will be asked to see if they can cope in certain situations and to see if they have the required skills to do the job. Previous employment and work experience is asked to see if the applicant has done anything related to the type of job and how they coped with it, someone who has had experience in a similar line of work and succeeded in being a hard working employee, they will have much more chance of getting the job than someone without any previous work experience related to the job.

Tesco would use application forms rather than a CV because they are able to get the more selective information about the candidate which relates to the business instead of a general statement. The information is more important because it gives Tesco a better view of what job position they can offer and the working hours and wages they can offer with it. With an application form Tesco can also ask for previous experience in the same line of work which will explain how well they are going to be able to cope with the work because it means that Tesco can slowly help the candidate to adapt to the way they have to work and realise the expectation of the business.

Person specification

The information that is included in a person specification will identify certain groups of people that see if they are able to do the job. Such things that they will look for includes; the necessary and desired qualifications to ensure they have been educated to the point that they will know what to do, previous experience in a working environment such as the jobs they have previously done and the experience they have because it will impact on their knowledge in the working environment, skills that they have learnt such as being part of a team and a valued leader, possibly being recognised for how organised they are in preparing for deadlines and limits, a highly valued skill may be the ability to type fast because it would mean that the work will be done more faster.

Person specifications may be aimed at people who are still qualifying for a certain job position; this may be people at college and university. The business will be able to gain reference from the people teaching the candidates. The information will be aimed at large groups of people such as for employees and watch their progress over time.

Tesco will need to shortlist their applicants because they will have a large amount, this way they can find out and select the key information that they desire from the applicants and they are able to choose the correct candidate for the job positions.

Employability skillsEvery employable candidate requires having the correct qualifying skills to be able to complete their work but along with the skills that are required to do the work they are also a variety of skills that are possible to have for many job positions and can be useful to have between jobs. These skills are known as employability skills, for the employees having the ability to efficiently work between different job positions in the modern workplace. Included areas of employability skills will include;

Suitable qualifications Experience in a similar role Knowledge of products and services Experience of specific industry Effectiveness in meeting personal and team targets Ability to observe and raise professional standards

Suitable QualificationsThere are different levels and amounts of qualifications that are required for different career positions, applications with a form of qualification up to GCSE may be asked for by one recruiting business whereas another recruiting business will ask for higher levels of qualification such as NVQ qualifications. There are some certain career professions that will look for specific skills, an example of this would be an accountancy firm which be looking for potential employees that have studied a form of qualification involving the ability to solve mathematical problems and critical skills, this level of qualification will be specified at the minimum level of A levels, a BTEC National or a similar qualification. Having the correct qualifications in the correct subject will ensure that the employer will see potential use for you as an employee.

What is needed in Tesco

Tesco would need to have suitable qualifications to recruit selective staff because of the large amount of people that apply for job positions, there have to be people that have more important qualities and are more suitable for the position. In different types of stores there are different types of qualifications needed to ensure the job is done correctly. An example of this is that pharmacists will need to know the range of medicines that are on sale, the prices of the products and possibly advice for the consumers about dosage and alternatives.

Why it is important when recruiting staff

it is important when recruiting staff to ensure that they have the correct qualifications to ensure that the job can be done correctly and at max efficiency, it is important that this possible so that the employees do not have to be shown what to do over and over again. Making sure the employees have suitable qualifications means that making a profit will be easier and much faster than if the employees did not have suitable qualifications.

Why it is important when retaining staff

Lewis Appleton 4 Mr McColgan

Page 5: Recruitment and selection

Unit 2 Assignment 1

It is important to retain staff that have suitable qualifications for many reasons, the suitable qualifications the staff already applied with have now been used within the business and the staff will be more efficient in the same business. It is also important because they have gained experience in the job which qualifies as experience in the working environment and it will be of use to the business more than new employees will be.

Experience in a similar roleWhen an employer is looking for the correct candidate, this could be an important part of an application, this is because they will look for more than just academic qualifications and will be looking for previous experience to show that you will have a basic idea of how to complete work assignments. If the person applying for the job has done work for a similar job position possibly for another company, it will increase the chances of getting to take advantage of the experience and using it in the new job position. Mentioning experience when applying for the job will show the employer that you have a basic understanding of some of the skills that may be required. The experience mentioned on a job application or your CV will be valued by the employer.

What is needed in Tesco

Experience in a similar role will be highly valued by a business such as Tesco; this is because it is important to be selective on choosing the right staff when the business is so large. Previous experience is highly valued by Tesco because it proves the employee will already have a basic understanding of what needs to be done, in addition to this it also increases the rate at which the employee will be able to work at because of the experience they have previously done. Such experience that may be needed can include customer service, in this case the employee with previous experience will be more patient, more accurate and make fewer mistakes than an employee that has not had previous experience and this is why it will be highly valued by Tesco.

Why it is important when recruiting staff

Previous experience is important when recruiting staff because it shows their ability to work in the same sort of environment, a person with only academic qualifications may struggle more than someone with previous experience because the person with experience will already know what they are doing and what is expected from them. The business would select staff that have had experience because the employees learn from the experience and learn how to develop their strengths and improve on their weaknesses that they have in the working environment.

Why it is important when retaining staff

It is important when retaining staff to look for experience because it shows the employees have a better understanding of the job and therefore have the ability to work more efficiently. Employees with previous experience are valued by businesses because of how it can be developed on and what it can lead to. A tactic that businesses may use to prevent their high valued staff members from leaving can include offering more training such as new qualifications that would help both them and the business.

Unit 2 Assignment 1

Knowledge of products and servicesIt is vital for an applicant to have knowledge of the services and the products that the business supplies to the consumers. This requirement is emphasised if the intention of the applicant is to have a role in customer service, here it would be vital to have knowledge. The chances of successfully getting the job position can improve depending on how well you are able to demonstrate your knowledge of the products and services which the business supplies to its consumers.

What is needed in Tesco

It is important to know what the products and services are when applying for a job at Tesco because they have a wide variety of products; customers that buy the products need to be served as quickly as possible to ensure they are satisfied. This means knowledge of the products will increase service efficiency and customer satisfaction and Tesco will make more profit. This is why Tesco will look for this knowledge because it will increase sales and it may gain the employee further promotions such as instead of working in one of the stores, working in a warehouse to deliver to stores; to do this they would need to know the product codes.

Why it is important when recruiting staff

It is important when recruiting staff to look for recognition of the products and services that are provided by the business. This is because it helps increase customer service and customer satisfaction. Knowledge of products and services means the employee can work at a faster rate and it will be much easier for them. Staff that also have previous experience selling known products can also be useful the business because it shows the employee is able to work at a good pace. Businesses look for staff that have knowledge of what they supply because it will make them more profit than it would for an employee to have no knowledge of the products.

Why it is important when retaining staff

It is important to retain staff that have knowledge of the businesses products and services because it is hard for new employees to recognise what the business provides. Retaining staff makes it easier for the business than obtaining new staff and it also helps keep a good profit going and work rate. If there are certain products that only the business sells, no other business sells it then it is important that the employee stays to increase awareness of the business. Hard working employees with good knowledge of the provided services and products are essential to a business becoming successful.

Experience of a specific industryIt should be made very clear when applying for a job position that you mention the fact if you have worked in any specific industry, letting the employer know this would increase the chances of getting the job, previous experience that has been from a specific industrial sector may be of great recognition as a useful quality with potential for the employers, this is because it will show that the employee will be able to pass on hints and tips which may increase the efficiency of how the business runs and also any information that will increase the chances of new business decisions and objectives. If your employer changes while having experience in the same industry for the new

Page 7: Recruitment and selection

Unit 2 Assignment 1

employer, employing you could be a potential idea for the business as they could find out information about their competitors and use it to their advantage.

What is needed in Tesco

Experience in a similar industry is important because it proves the employee has a good understanding of what is expected by employers and will know well what to do in certain situations. Tesco will look for experience of a specific industry because it means the employee will know what they have to do for the business and how they need to do it, it can be recognised by employers as being useful. One of the reasons it is seen as useful is the employee can prove to Tesco that they are able to pass on hints of what they have learnt and therefore increase the efficiency of the business.

Why it is important when recruiting staff

Experience in a particular industry may be important, but a business that specializes in a specific service or range of products can be thinking about how a business they are competing with can be working and what are they doing to succeed. A business will wonder how their competitors are working and someone with previous experience in that specific industry can pass on knowledge to the business which can help increase efficiency and profits, therefore it is important to have previous experience because it means that the job can be done more correctly and possibly more efficiently than other employees.

Why it is important when retaining staff

It is important to retain staff that have had experience in a similar industry because they do not want the next business the employee works for to know their tactics and how they work. It is also important that the employee is able to continue to give knowledge to the business because it is essential to know everything they can about their competitors. Knowing about the competitors gives the business an advantage and it is important to keep the staff hoping that they will share knowledge of how they succeed and what their weak points are. A business does not want the employee to pass on the experience to another business because it will put them at a disadvantage.

Effectiveness in meeting personal and team targetsIt is vital for succession in a business’s decisions and objectives that their employees have the ability to meet targets. The employee needs to be able to give a demonstration that they can meet the targets that a business will set for them and that they can complete any deadlines with no lack of detail or any difficulties. It is things like the ability to demonstrate these qualities which will make you more employable because it uniquely makes you stand out as having the dedication to fulfil the businesses needs. Chances of employability can be increased if you have previous experience of working towards targets in a job whether it was working on a target as an individual or part of a team, there are some targets which are easier to be met by teams than others. It is the structure of the targets which will determine how well the organisations employees will be able to cope with the assignment and with each other.

What is needed in Tesco

Lewis Appleton 7 Mr McColgan

Page 8: Recruitment and selection

Unit 2 Assignment 1

Tesco will look for this quality because it shows the employee can work as part of a team and work towards targets, leading a team of who deal directly with a specific job. Tesco will look for potential teams that can motivate the team members to work at a good rate, manage the available resources that they have, to set and achieve targets as part of a team. This is what Tesco will look for as it working in teams can be more efficient than independent work and therefore can be more strategic and efficient.

Why it is important when recruiting staff

Businesses will look for people that can work as part of a team because team targets are met far more quickly than targets set as an individual. Working as part of a team proves you can make key decisions that will aid the business at the aims and objectives it has set. The ability to meet team and personal targets means that the employee can demonstrate their ability to meet deadlines with miniscule amounts of difficulty and this is what employers look for because it is essential to have employees that are able to co-operate with other staff and work towards getting the job done at a faster rate.

Why it is important when retaining staff

Good team leadership means allowing ideas and people to come together and performance to flow increasing profits for the business. balancing people's strengths within a team and combining them to make even better efficiency, as well as being able to build good relationships and connect with the team members means that the employees will succeed in meeting the team targets at a much faster rate and this is why it is important to make sure the employees are kept in the business. Challenging and meaningful team targets will be set to make sure the employees are able to cope with the rate the business is expecting, things that businesses will look for include; developing individual strengths, establishing good relationships with others and pursuing worthwhile and meaningful goals.

Ability to observe and raise professional standardsEmployers will look for the applicants that can consistently work to at least the standards set by the business, this way it shows that employing the applicant will not be a waste of time, effort and money. To improve the likeliness of being recruited an applicant could take the next step by achieving above these standards and being able to suggest to the business how to improve the standards and then helping the business improve the ways of how the jobs are done. People who are seen by the employers to have reasonably high professional standards are desired for the business’s job placement. These standards represent a wide variety of professions for the organisation and in addition to this it is required that the employees are able to accept their role in achieving these standards whilst they are working towards deadlines and targets.

What is needed in Tesco

Tesco look for employees that will work hard so that they do not end up wasting their time and money on training people that will not work to the standards that are expected. Tesco would look for people that are willing to show they can achieve higher than the standards set and therefore will have a higher chance of being recruited and getting a good wage. Employees will be expected to give

Lewis Appleton 8 Mr McColgan

Page 9: Recruitment and selection

Unit 2 Assignment 1

the business a good recognition and to make it aware to customers, to improve, employees can give the business crucial ideas on how to improve service and efficiency.

Why it is important when recruiting staff

Employers will look for people that are able to show the business how to improve the way it is running to make a more regular profit and far more efficiency on how the products and services are sold. Being able to help a business achieve this would increase the chances of being employed and the employers will desire the employee. The employee will need to show they can take a business decision to the next level and they will need to show that they can work under pressure and difficult situations while trying to meet their deadlines.

Why it is important when retaining staff

It is important to retain staff that are able to make decisive business decisions because it could mean that the business will achieve a whole new level relating to their aims and objectives, it could also mean that the business is going to make far more profit because of the decisive decisions. The employers will also want to retain these staff because they act as a role model to other employees and are looked up to as a guideline on which to follow. This puts a positive effect on the working environment and helps achieve delivery of quality service in quantity.

Why these skills are important when applying for a job roleIt is important to own as much of these qualities as possible because it really helps when applying for a job position, this is because of the recognition that employers will give to these qualities and they will be highly valued. Employers will expect to see as much of the following because it show the employee can work under standard working conditions with patience and knowledge for what they are doing, it also shows they can work as part of a team to ensure the goal is met as quickly as possible. Previous experience helps greatly because it shows the applicant has a decent understanding of what will be expected of them and what it is they have to do.

Personal skillsThere are skills that are beneficial to any and every job position, an employer will recognise any personal skills that the candidate has and will be interested in looking for any of the following;

Patient and hardworkingEmployers will be looking for people that are patient, this is because an impatient employee could show signs of aggression to other employees or the public community, and one of the job positions that would require patience would be where it is essential to interact with members of the public. It is helpful if employees can remain calm and patient in situations where it may be difficult, this is something that an employer will look for and it will be valued highly as a personal skill. It is accepted that patience can be hard and also that individuals will have different types of situation and different

Page 10: Recruitment and selection

Unit 2 Assignment 1

amounts of pressure that they can handle, for a business person it is a personal skill that can be very important. When decisions in the business are rushed they will generally be lower than the business’s standards and could jeopardise the employee’s placement in the business if bad decisions continue to be made, it is considered better to revise over the options and what could be consequences before making a rushed decision. Employers will also value an employee who is able to consistently produce high amounts of work compared to other employees that spend too much time doing less important things during work hours such as spending too much time talking which can also be distracting to the other employees, talking on their mobile phones about things which are unrelated to the business and surfing the internet for useless banter. In the working environment it is true that avoiding the surrounding distractions could be difficult but any employee has to be able to because it is one of the reasons that they have been chosen to be employed, this may mean that completing an assignment on time could require more time to be spent after the specified working hours to catch up for what they haven’t completed.

What is needed in Tesco

Tesco will want applicants to be patient and hardworking so they do not have to be reminded of how they are meant to be doing their job. Tesco will be expecting for their employees to be able to keep calm in difficult situations because this would ensure that the customers are given a positive attitude and are kept satisfied. Tesco also want their employees to be hard working so it means that they can learn potential ideas from the employee and develop job opportunities for them.

Why is it important when recruiting staff

It is important for businesses to recruit staff that are hard working and patient because it means they will be able to give customers and anyone they interact with a positive attitude. Businesses look for this because it means their customers will stay satisfied with their service and this may increase brand awareness. Smaller businesses will look for this more because it is what will give their business a big boost of positive awareness and will help them expand in the future.

Why it is important when retaining staff

It is important to retain staff that are important and hard working because they are able to work more efficiently and they will not be a distraction to other staff. Keeping the hard working staff means that the business can have its work done faster and more efficiently while also not having to worry about their staff not doing the work. Keeping the more patient staff means that the employees will not give negative attitude to customers and other staff in difficult situations.

Team workerBeing able to work as part of a team is another highly valued personal skill and it is favoured by employers that have several hard business targets that would be nearly impossible to do as an individual, in some teams the organisation may have a leader which will help the manager oversee the ability the employee has to work as part of a team, it is required that teams are able to use resources efficiently to complete their targets before the deadlines. As part of a team the employee will be monitored by managers in two ways, firstly the employee will be monitored to see the individuals contributions towards the team target and secondly the overall teams performance, how

Lewis Appleton 10 Mr McColgan

Page 11: Recruitment and selection

Unit 2 Assignment 1

they are progressing in terms of work rate and work levels and also their ability to co-operate with each other in order to make key team decisions and agree with what is being done. The contribution towards the teams overall progress by the employee will be what decides whether they are able to be part of the team, whether they are able to lead the team and whether the team target is possible.

What is needed in Tesco

Tesco will want employees to work as part of a team to ensure that goals are met faster; this means that Tesco will be able to make a much faster profit and a larger amount especially if certain objectives are carried out individually. Tesco want people to be able to get along with a team to reduce the amount of workload that everyone will have to do if they were working alone, therefore it is then easier for both Tesco and the employees.

Why is it important when recruiting staff

It is important for businesses to recruit staff that are able to work as part of a team because it means that goals can be set as a team which reduces the amount of work that has to be done. This is important for the larger businesses because they will most likely have high expectations and difficult objectives to achieve. This means that a team would be much more efficient for the business as it makes things easier and efficient because the team can communicate and help each other.

Why it is important when retaining staff

It is important to keep staff that are able to work as part of a team because of the skills and experience they have developed. It is even more important if they have regularly been working as part of a successful team because it means they can communicate effectively with their team members and the loss of the member can make it harder for the team. Keeping these staff means the business can continue to develop the way they operate and have valuable employees that work together to meet expectations.

Interpersonal skillsOur interpersonal skills are what allows us to co-operate in the working environment with other people and employees, the ability to be able to promote relationships in a positive way and therefore this allows us to be able to be more efficient whilst doing the job or to do it in a much better format, this will also allow the other employees the ability to work harder and more efficiently as it has a positive effect upon them. For some people they are good naturally at being able to communicate positively with their colleagues and able to encourage them to work at a faster pace but learning how to develop these skills is possible to do and they are worth the time to try and improve on. Employers will be more interested in recruiting you if your interpersonal skills are good and also can give the chance to obtain a higher job position. One of the simple interpersonal skills is smiling, a cheerful employee will be more interesting to other colleagues and they may be encouraged into getting to know you, talking and listening to you.

What is needed in Tesco

Tesco will want people with interpersonal skills because it means they are able to communicate with the other employees by encouraging them to do their work and making suggestions on what to do.

Unit 2 Assignment 1

Tesco want their employees to be able to make positive commitments to not only their work, but also being able to provide an example to newer employees of what is expected. Tesco may look for interpersonal skills such as smiling during an interview.

Why is it important when recruiting staff

It is important to recruit staff with good interpersonal skills because it means that their employees will not be struggling to suggest their ideas which could have potential. Small businesses will want to recruit these staff because it means that the positive attitude will reflect on the other employees and make the workplace more enjoyable. Bigger businesses will also need these staff because it means that people’s ideas can be shared more easily throughout the business.

Why it is important when retaining staff

It is important to keep staff that have good interpersonal skills because if the employee has had an impact on someone else in the business it could mean that they have developed a good communication. It is important for small businesses to retain these staff because the skills are very important in the business and not many people have high interpersonal skills. Bigger businesses will also try to keep their staff because of the communication they have developed with the business.

Co-operationEmployees are expected to be able to share their opinions on how the business is run such as ideas of improving or wishes for the business. Employees will be more employable if they can confidently work co-operatively with other people in the same working environment at wherever position they can. Co-operation can also mean getting on with the work that has been set to do in a way that is not only positive but also constructive instead of wasting time complaining to other people about it. Employees are expected to work on their assigned tasks and this relates back to being a hard worker where they will need to be using their working hours wisely, getting the assignment done instead of wasting time doing things that are not important and have no effect on the business. Co-operative employees are highly valued by employers because they expect to spend less time listening to employees moan so that they can do more important tasks.

What is needed in Tesco

Tesco will want their employees to be co-operative because it means that ideas on how to run the business more efficiently can be heard and Tesco may think it is a good idea. Tesco want to make sure the employees are co-operative because they want staff to be able to help each other to achieve their objectives by offering advice and support. NegotiationThe ability to negotiate can be a useful skill for an employee; it involves persuading someone or a group of people to agree to do something. Both of the arguing parties will have different viewpoints on what should be done and both have to find something that they can agree with. It is intended to help both parties understand the potential of what can be done. It can be used for arguments involving people such as staff members where they would have to agree on something; for example a staff member may want a break in the morning and so will the other one, but one would have to have it in the afternoon. They would negotiate to find a solution such as an earlier afternoon break or longer. Negotiation can also be used for personal gains such as achieving a better pay rise or better conditions to work in.
