Design Inspiration

The design philosophy for this project was to create a highly efficient and architecturally stunning world class winery for Yealands Estate. The building features a highly insulated envelope and is considered one of the most environmentally friendly wineries ever built.

Inspired by the landscape, the curved roof mirrors the shape of the nearby rolling hills, and the overall building is reminiscent of traditional family run countryside wineries.

Technical Solutions

Curved Roof is a secret-fix insulated panel and is ideal for curved roofs with a minimum radius of 150m. It is a completely unique panel as it is cupped at both ends to achieve the desired dome effect. For this project, the curved roof rises from the low end to the high central area and was specifically designed to follow the flow of tanks within the winery from small to large.

Sustainable Leader

Yealands Estate is the most technologically and environmentally advanced winery in New Zealand, and has paved the way for a sustainable and eco-friendly future. Sustainability was a key requirement for the construction of this project and Kingspan panels were chosen for their ability to achieve Environmental Profile Certification from the Building Research Establishment.

The Curved Roof and Micro-Rib panels installed are 100% recyclable and rate A to A+, an exceptionally high green rating.

Mirroring the Landscape

Kingspan’s Curved Roof panel was chosen to create the dome shaped roof and to accurately reflect the vision in the design brief. The shape perfectly matches the winery requirements and mirrors the surrounding countryside hills. The panels have been coated in Spectrum Metallic Silver which produces a smooth and aesthetically pleasing aesthetic.

Business Protection

Due to the highly flammable products held within the building, it was imperative for this project to install superior FireSafe panels. Both the Curved Roof and Micro-Rib panels installed are LPCB approved, offering total peace of mind for business owners.
