CHALLENGING THE CLASSIFICATIONS

There are three classes of Department of Buildings ECB Violations:

CLASS 1 (IMMEDIATELY HAZARDOUS) Examples: installing a water line without a permit, structural cracks in the façade, failure to provide unobstructed exit passageway

CLASS 2 (MAJOR VIOLATIONS) Examples: broken walkway steps, failure to register the boiler

CLASS 3 (LESSER VIOLATIONS) Examples: parking a commercial vehicle in a residential district, dead storage of vehicles
