Anyone paying attention to SEO and Google search rankings, especially in real estate already knows thatGoogle probably pushed your website down to make even more room f or the big online syndicates like Z illowand the rest of the Wal Marts of real estate mediocrity. This is because, f ollowing Eric Schmidt’s 2008 that theInternet was a cesspool and brands were the solution to the cesspool, Google has continued a course to givedef erence and pref erence to brands whether they are actually better f or people looking f or real estate orwhether they are just bigger.

Your website that used to be at the top of search now may be on page two or three because af ter years ofdoing SEO with lots of low-power links to your website f rom obscure directories and other smallish blogs andwebsites of f riends, etc. kind enough to link to you plus anywhere else you could f igure out where to place anarticle and a link pointing to your website that says “yourtown homes f or sale”, Google decided to pull the plug,well at least partially, on those kind of links and make even more room at the top f or those websites most likelyto get higher “quality” links, by “quality” I mean links f rom websites with higher PageRank and maybe a bit of astronger social signal, but not necessarily the social thing. There is a whole lot of noise by Social Mediapromoters about the ranking value of social media prof iles and signals attached to your website- it just isn’ttrue, at least not yet.

I still rank plenty of sites with no social media prof iles at all. You still want yours because a G+ prof ile is theonly way you’re getting that photo next to your website in search results.

All that said, ranking a website is great and you want to be at the top of search or at least on page one f orsomething that buying customers are looking f or when they’re ready to buy.

According to a recent NAR study the average home buyer returns to research on the Internet twenty t imesbef ore buying. I think they want to know something that the big websites aren’t telling them.

It’s something that only you, the local agent, can tell them, show them, photograph f or them, video f or themand write about f or them. Are you answering every question that a buyer might have in that precious window ofopportunity when they’re trying to f ind out about specif ics?
