Discipleship :

The Meaning,

The Marks,

The Cost,

The Rewards

Read Luke 18: 18-23

Luke 18: 22(KJV)22 Now when Jesus heard these

things, he said unto him, Yet

lackest thou one thing: sell all

that thou hast, and distribute

unto the poor, and thou shalt

have treasure in heaven: and

come, follow me.

Luke 18: 22(AMP)22 And when Jesus heard it, He said to him, one thing you still lack. Sell everything that you have and divide [the money] among the poor, and you will

have [rich] treasure in heaven; and come back [and] follow Me [become My disciple, join My party, and accompany Me].

Question

What is He telling us here?

If you have money or

possessions, you can’t follow

Him?

What does He mean?

Read Luke 14:25-27

Luke 14:25-27(KJV) 25 Large crowds went with Him. And

He turned and said to them, 26 “If anyone comes to Me and does not

hate his father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple.27 And whoever does not bear his cross

and follow Me cannot be My disciple.

26 If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his

[own] father and mother [in the sense of

indifference to or relative disregard for them in

comparison with his attitude toward God] and

[likewise] his wife and children and brothers

and sisters—[yes] and even his own life also—

he cannot be My disciple.

27 Whoever does not persevere and carry his

own cross and come after (follow) Me cannot

be My disciple.

Luke 14:26-27(AMP)

Question

Hate? Is He telling us that we

have to hate our family here?

If you don’t hate yourself, you

can’t follow Him?

What does He mean?

Hate

Greek word miseo

Hate, Love less

Read Matthew 16:24

Matthew 16:24(KJV)24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and

follow me.

Matthew 16:24(AMP)24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, If

anyone desires to be My disciple, let

him deny himself [disregard, lose sight

of, and forget himself and his own

interests] and take up his cross and

follow Me [cleave steadfastly to Me,

conform wholly to My example in

living and, if need be, in dying, also].

Quote“To unbelievers among the multitudes who

were present on that occasion Jesus’

words ’come after Me’ applied to the initial

surrender of the new birth, when a person

comes to Christ for salvation and the old life

of sin is exchanged for a new life of

righteousness. To the believers there,

including the Twelve, ’come after

Me’ reiterated the call to the life of daily

obedience to Christ.”

Question

What does ‘take up

your cross’ mean?

What does it mean to

you?

Paul said:

1 Corinthians 15:

31 I protest by your

rejoicing which I have

in Christ Jesus our

Lord, I die daily.
