Overview
M. S. Ramaiah School of Advanced Studies 4
• Pulse is the number of occurrences of a repeating event per unit time
• Generators are often used with an oscilloscope as the measuring device
• There are different types of pulses

Pulse Generator Characteristics
• Pulse preshoot • Linearity
• Pulse ringing
M. S. Ramaiah School of Advanced Studies 13
Applications
• Pulse generators are used to drive devices such as switches, lasers and optical
components, modulators, intensifiers as well as resistive loads
• The output of a pulse generator may also be used as the modulation signal for a
signal generator
• Non-electronic applications such as material science, medical, physics, chemistry
• It is used for digital communication
• Digital MP3 players
• All digital IC pins
M. S. Ramaiah School of Advanced Studies 14
Advantages
• Simple control system
• High currents
•Good control and flexibility of time parameters
Disadvantages
• Amplitude drop during the pulse
• Low amplitude flexibility
M. S. Ramaiah School of Advanced Studies 15
Conclusion
• Pulse generator operation was explained in detail
• Pulse characteristics was also dealt with relevant explanation with pictures
• Pulse generator application was explained
• Advantages and disadvantages of different concepts of pulse generator is
summarized
