Tomi Suggestion:• Provide you ministers with large-screen but non
Apple (non Blackberry) Android based smartphones. • Large screen/phablet makes it easy to show one or
two people things on the phone (also thus cannot be Blackberry).
• Provide tons of VIDEO religious content to show on that screen
• Then it must have two functionalities: microSD card slot and Bluetooth. Why? Because this is how people share content (and thus cannot be iPhone)
• (oh and why Android? Maximum practical apps and content for your ministers)

But wouldn’t it be a spectacularly un-Christian thing to do, to offer services only for the rich elites and spit in the faces of 40% of your congregation? Especially those less fortunate who

Tomi Suggestion:• Offer phone recharging at you churches in Africa and
less-developed parts of Asia• Make sure you have plenty of power supplies for
Nokia (3 different Nokia plugs) remembering one in six mobile phone owners in Emerging World has a second hand (ie very old) mobile phone and by far most of those will be Nokia branded
• Also build your charging station so, that you chargers cannot be easily stolen...

US Smartphone Users• Extensive study of 1,600 smartphone owners by
Pew in the USA, that consisted of 14 individual surveys per person, found use of smartphones:
• Texting 97% use and is also most used per day• Voice calls 92% use but is 4th most used per day• Internet 89% use, was 3rd most used per day• Email 88% use, was 2nd most often used per day

Emerging World Mobile• Survey of 36,600 people by Pew of 32 countries in
the Emerging World found:– 84% owned any kind of mobile phone– 24% owned a smartphone (29% migration rate)

Tomi Suggestion:• In missionary work in areas of obscure languages:• Use CAMERA and VIDEO on minister’s smartphone
to capture local language speakers do impromptu translations of the verses in Bible
• Use MINIMUM data resolution for those videos
• Then save them per Bible passage name & number• And share with congregation. Many will have basic
video capacity and some memory to save these files.• Eventually you’ll have the whole Bible done in video
files in that language by ‘citizen translations’• (If there are two people recording, use best resolution
video for second recording but always lowest resolution for primary recording)

Obama 2012 SMS Volunteers• The Obama 2008 campaign used social media and
mobile very successfully. For 2012 they turbocharged their efforts. One of their most ingenious ideas was the recruiting of SMS volunteers on election day
• "Would you like to make one call to support President Obama today? We'll send you one phone number."

Tomi Suggestion:• Use SMS to find activist supporters• So any Church leaders meetings, committees, do like
the Obama campaign always did at their start:
• At start of meeting tell the people gathered: look around, see who is here and who is not. Everybody can think of one person who should be here who isn’t. Lets send them an invitation SMS for next meeting.
• This makes SMS right from the start an integral part that every member knows how to use (often older people not as comfortable with the tech, so younger members can help)
