Tools to Take Control1. Assessments
– Must focus on goals
– Need to understand the obstacles posed by ill-health, long
term conditions, disability, individual preferences, etc

Goals - A Personal Bucket List?• Everything you want to achieve in life, dreams you want
to fulfil, and better experiences you desire.• It’s a reminder of what we want to achieve in our time
on Planet Earth, so that instead of wasting time, we are directing our energies into doing what matters to us.– What would you do if you had unlimited time and money?– What have you always wanted to do but have not done yet?– Any countries, places or locations you want to visit?– What do you want to see in person?– What experiences do you want to have / feel?– Are there any special moments you want to witness?– What activities or skills do you want to learn or try out?– What would you like to say/do together with other people? – Are there any specific people you want to meet in person?

Obstacles and IssuesWe can’t always do what we want to do – there are challenges to overcome:
– Health issues
– Mobility restrictions
– Sensory deficits
– Cognitive/neurological issues
– Communication difficulties
Each challenge introduces issues that need to be resolved

Non-Invasive Blood Glucose Measurement
• C8 MediSensors uses Raman spectroscopy to non-invasively detect glucose in blood by shining light through the skin and detecting changes in the returning spectrum.
• Once the sensor is attached to the skin it sends out regular readings wirelessly
© KD 2015
• Abbott’s FreeStyle LibreFlash Glucose Monitoring System has a sensor that’s attached to the back of the upper arm and a device that copies and displays the readings from the sensor.
• The sensor records blood glucose levels every minute, sampling the interstitial fluid using a 5mm long filament that penetrates the skin.
Contactless ECG Measurements
• The EPIC sensor can measure very
slight changes in the electric field around
it and doesn’t require gels or substrates
to enhance signal transmission, very
useful for ECG, EMG, and EEG
applications
• At a distance, the sensor can detect arm
gestures and body movement, also
useful for patient monitoring
• The imPulse device reads anyone’s
cardiac signals via the two EPIC thumb
pads and uses Bluetooth to interface
with smartphones and tablets for instant
ECG readout.
• Because of its low energy consumption,
the imPulse is promised to work for
months without requiring battery
changes
