Universal Studios has produced/disturbed a lot of films. Out of which I’ve seen pretty much half of them. The film which inspired me the most is “Charlie St. Cloud”. Summary: Charlie St. Cloud is an American romantic Drama film, based on Ben Sherwood’s novel; the life and death of Charlie St. Cloud. A young man forms a unique connection to the afterlife after surviving the tragic car accident that claimed his younger brother. This movie is about a young sailor named Charlie St. Cloud who earns a sailing scholarship to Stanford University. It’s the night of his high school graduation, when Charlie gets back home, he promises his younger brother Sam, that they’d play catch and ball together every day until he leaves for his university. Charlie is left at home to babysit his brother Sam, while their mother picks a second shift at her job. Sam insists Charlie on driving him to his friend’s place when on their way they get into a really bad car accident due to which his brother Sam gets wounded. Knowing that Sam’s injuries are fatal, Charlie blames himself for taking him over to his friend’s in the first place. Sam gets to know he has little time to live so he asks Charlie to never leave him alone and if he does they’ll still be brother no matter what. Later, a paramedic visits Sam, and that’s when he succumbs to his wound in the arms of the doctor. Then, its Sam’s funeral and Charlie is broken hearted. After his burial, Charlie takes a long walk into the woods and that’s when he realizes that he has a somewhat connection with Sam’s spirit which is in the woods. That is how the two brothers re-unite. After their reunion, Charlie fulfills his promise to Sam and he plays catch and ball with him every day. Then the story takes a turn and it’s shown that five years later, Charlie gives up on his university scholarship because he is mournful over Sam’s loss. HE starts residing by woods near the cemetery where his little brother is buried.

HE starts residing by woods near the cemetery where his little brother is buried. Charlie visits a dock and it is then when he meets a girl named Tess, who is scheduled to sail solo, around the world. Charlie falls in love with the girl and Sam realizes that he is being erased from Charlie’s life slowly due to entrance of the girl; Tess. Sam’s spirit gets upset with Charlie and Tess tells Charlie that he needs to do one thing at a time. The more he is in her world the less in Sam’s.Later, Charlie discovers that Tess has been missing since the storm, and then he realizes that he can see Tess just like he can see Sam. He thinks she’s dead but, Charlie finds Tess on the shore; dying. And it’s when he realizes that Tess is still not dead and he needs to find her in order to keep her alive. Due to this havoc, Charlie misses the sunset game with his brother Sam; he expresses his love for his younger brother when he finally tells him he loves him back and then takes off as a shooting star telling Charlie where Tess can be found. Charlie and Tess are taken to the hospital where Alistair tells Charlie that Tess had hypothermia and that he saved her. Later, Charlie purchases an old boat and asks Tess if she would like to

take a ride with him. However, Tess fears him explaining that she had been having vivid dreams about them together. Charlie tells Tess that her dreams are memories and recites a quote from her dad's funeral that they had spoken about in her dreams. Charlie decides to resign from his job and goes into the forest to reminisce and say farewell to Sam, telling him they'll always be brothers and although he is unable to see him, Sam is there too and reveals that he's at peace, before Charlie leaves the forest with Tess. During the credits, Charlie and Tess finally sail around the world and say goodbye to the citizens of Quincy Harbor, Washington.

What inspires me in this movie? This romantic fantasy takes place in a seaside town where it’s always magic hour and this movie appears entirely caressed in the glow of beatific glow of sunset after sunset which is really inspirational. Its half-tragic story suggests about life, grief and loss. And how a person carries on even after losing their loved ones. They story’s tagline suggests that “Life is for living” and I guess, that’s what the movie tells us about. After Sam’s death, Charlie goes and plays baseball with his spirit which is a clear definition of being a family. The kinship and relationships which are evolved in this movie are fantastic. And that is something I would really like to use in my film. The beach and the sunsets, the woods. Taking chances and the kinship. That’s some key elements for my movie.

“The motivational dialogs throughout the movie give a person some hope to live and move on with life”
