BIL ConferenceSet minds free
How it Started
In 2007, a group of friends decided to crash the
TED Conference. Once word spread, 350+
people came together to create the first BIL.
Many TED attendees and speakers came to
BIL to spread their ideas to the unwashed
masses.
What is it?
BIL emerged from a community of people who aspire to
change the world for the better- everyone is on equal
standing and we meet to share ideas, problems that need
solving, and discoveries we are excited about with a quite
diverse national and international crowd. Our attendees are
our speakers and our speakers are our attendees and in
true unconference style, attendees are responsible for
shaping the conference itself through their participation.
The Concept
TED cost $6,000+/yr BIL is free
TED is invite only BIL is
open to all
TED is heavily curated BIL is ad-hoc
TED is top-down BIL is
egalitarian
You don’t need TED’s structure to share ideas.
What BIL is not
BIL is not an organization. BIL has no board.
No trademarks. No licenses.
BIL is a concept with little structure and virtually
no rules. There’s a spirit that should be
followed, but is not enforced.

place September 25, 2012 downtown Tunis with 4
speakers and a public of 60 people, the BIL Conference
