Target Audience

Questionnaires…

• I produced a range of questionnaires to find out what my target audience liked, found appealing, their interests were, their favourite bands and then basic things like their gender and age.

• This helped me gain feedback on what features I should include in my magazine, what colours and font styles to use and who to mainly aim it towards.

• I found out that my main target audience were males and females, teenagers and young adults. All of them like indie/rock artists such as Red hot chilli peppers, Coldplay, Kings of Leon and Biffy Clyro. This helped me relate back to what I found myself when I did research into magazines and make my magazine more appealing and conventional. I asked my target audience what their hobbies were and most of them said that they enjoy listening to music and when they have the time to they listen to it every day, they also enjoy watching television and meeting up with their friends. This is good because it fits in well with the psychographic of the target audience for NME magazine and also my magazine. They said that they would like to see bold colours/fonts, a bold masthead and images of artists that they are interested in. Finding out this feedback was good because it meant that I could then make sure that I included all the features in my own magazine, therefore making it appealing. Most of them said they do buy NME magazine, this helps me as this is the magazine that I am basing my own magazine on.

These results helped me make sure that my magazine was appealing towards my target audience. By asking them what the expected to see in an indie rock magazine, what they found appealing and what aspects of my magazine they liked. I found out that they liked bands such as Kings of Leon, arctic monkeys and red hot chili peppers. They also liked the colours black, white and red, so I made sure that I used these colours in my magazine to make it more appealing. I also made sure that the articles were based around bands that they liked. By finding out what they liked on my own magazine it made sure that my product was conventional and appealing, so it was successful.

Work in progress…

To make sure that I was producing my magazine to appeal to my target audience I created a question asking questions such as ‘what have I improved the most since my first draft for my front cover’ and so on for my double page spread and contents page. I also asked them to answer what I still need to improve on. This allowed me to gain valuable information on how to make my magazine more conventional and appealing to my target audience.

Front cover…

• The feedback for my questionnaire told me that my images, font, layout and colours used were conventional on my front cover.

• They also said that the new image I have used is more suitable for indie and the writing has changed to look more conventional, therefore looking more appealing.

• However, it was suggested that I change some of the black writing to white to make it look more professional, easier to read and more appealing to my target audience. This is something that I made sure I did in my final product.

Contents Page…• The feedback for my questionnaire

told me that my images, font, layout and colours used were conventional on my contents page.

• They also said that my new layout was much more clearer and more information had been included, which is something my target audience found appealing and stereotypical.

• Beforehand there were too many images, and this is something that I made sure I changed, as this is an aspect that my target audience did not find appealing.

Double page spread…• The feedback for my questionnaire told

me that my images, font, layout and colours used were conventional on my double page spread.

• They also said that they liked the image that was used on this page, they thought it was appealing and appropriate for an indie rock magazine. People also said that they liked the font used for the masthead and that the interview/article text is also conventional.

• However, it was said that I should consider adding a pull quote and caption to my double page spread, and this is something that I made sure I did. Meaning my double page spread would be more appealing to my target audience.
