Upcoming 2nd Amendment cases set for SCOTUS conference on February 21, 2014
NRA v. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (13-137)NRA v. McCraw (13-390)Lane v. Holder (12-1401)
The first two cases deal with laws - the 1968 Federal law in 13-137 and a Texas law in 13-390 - that restrict handgun access to minors (under 21 yrs of age).
In the Federal petition (13-137), the NRA contends that (1) the lower courts have consistently ignored and resisted the Supreme Court's landmark 2nd Amendment decisions; and (2) the 2nd Amendment right to bear arms extends not only inside the home but outside as well - it is unrestricted.
In the Texas petition (13-390), the NRA contends that (1) the right to bear arms under the 2nd Amendment is not restricted by age; and (2) the “right to bear arms” means the right to carry them when one leaves home.
The last petition (12-1401), is a test of whether gun fanciers have a right to sue to challenge federal gun laws that restrict their option of buying guns from dealers in a different state.

The decisions in each of these cases will fundamentally affect our 2nd Amendment rights. If the Court rules in favor of the Petitioner in each case, WE WIN and the decisions could be interpreted as a nullification of the need to obtain a concealed permit. However, should the Court rule in favor of the Respondents (God forbid), we lose big time. SCOTUS could announce as early as February 24, 2014 its decision on whether or not to hear the cases. Should the Supreme Court rule that it will Review the cases, it may be too late to get on the docket for the current session which would kick the cases to the next session in October. I will keep you all apprised of the Supreme Court's decision on whether to grant a Review of these cases or not.
