What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

The sort of distribution company that I'm going to use is going to be more mainstream (frontline) because I want to be able to get the magazine known and therefore have it distributed to many different stores so that people can just go to any shop and get their favourite magazine. Having it in many stores will mean it gets recognised.

However I would like it to be a mix of both because I feel this is a unique idea having it aimed at just females which makes it more independent and if this is sold in all shops it will reduce the uniqueness of the magazine and may ruin the brand identity.

Kerrang is a mainstream magazine and is the same genre of music as the magazine I have produced. It is a very mainstream magazine and is distributed by Frontline it has a big backing of people who buy it which is what I aim to achieve from my magazine.

My audience are females and in order to get the magazine known I would want it to go into a well known shop so that the females would recognise it and the mainstream strategy benefits such an idea. Having a female rock magazine is quite unique in itself as you normally identify rock magazines with a male audience.

The places in which I would like to see my magazine would be places like WH Smith, HMV, Supermarkets, independent newsagents and music retailers. It will be an effective method because they will be able to find it anywhere and it wont be a lot of effort so your more likely to get people to buy it.

There would be big links to big publishers such as Bauer and maybe BBC this would mean it could have a multi- store platform where there would be links to music sales/brands and even festivals.

I feel that it will make a nice profit however if I choose to use a mainstream distribution strategy I may not benefit from such a big profit as the costs to distribute will be higher and this will mean that any money I do make will not end up being enough to call it a profit and this could lead to unexpected cuts with in the magazine.

If my magazine was to be online I wouldn’t want it to be really over the top as that would mean it would cost a lot of money for advertising and I would hope my magazine wouldn’t need that. The website would have a members area where you would have to become a member to view exclusives and to read clips from the magazines each month this makes it inviting and very exclusive.

The brand identity is that the magazine is very exclusive and fun and would be attracting young educated teenagers. If you were to not find it in main supermarkets and newsagents then it would be going against the brand identity.
