Poverty
By: Alona Botnar
“Today, over 22,000 children died around the
world”
“At least 80% of humanity lives on less
than $10 a day”
“Nearly a billion people entered the 21st century unable to read a book or
sign their names…about 72 million children in the developing world were not in school in 2005; 57% were girls… And these are
regarded as optimistic numbers…”
We complain about our schools…
They appreciate what they have…
Military Spending in the World
= $780 billion
Yet we only spend $13 billion on basic health and nutrition…
“Less than 1% of what the world spent every year on
weapons was needed to put every child into school by the year 2000… and yet it
didn’t happen”
We depend on our phones, iPods, laptops, etc.
“1.6 billion people — a quarter of humanity — live without
electricity”
We can’t even cope with short power outages
Water Problems affect half of the world’s population…
“Diarrhea diseases such as cholera and dysentery kill about
1.6 million people each year, almost all of them children.” Diarrhea is often a result of
unclean water, unsafe sanitation, or poor hygiene.
Poverty is not just in Africa or Asia…
It is everywhere.
It is not these people’s fault.
They are not lazy.
They have not made poor decisions.
Many were born this way.
Many have no way out.
They feel trapped.
They feel powerless.
Let’s end the tears…
Let’s End the Hunger…End the Frustration.
