Over the past few months Israelbegan easing restrictions on the flowof goods into Gaza This was metwith approval by UN Secretary BanKi-Moon during his visit to theregion Israelrsquos policy towards theHamas-controlled Gaza Strip is notstagnant and is always changing inresponse to regional security Overthis past weekend the Israeli Cabinetvoted to approve a number ofmeasures which will create a muchsimpler policy towards the closure ofGaza The goal of the closure has alwaysbeen to el iminate the f low ofcomba tan t s and deny Hamasweaponry which it has and willcontinue to use against Israelis andPalestinians However the updatedpolicy will make the distinctionbetween what is and what is notallowed into Gaza clearer All goodsfood products medicine etc willcontinue to enter Gaza with norestrictions But rather than publish alist of what is allowed the Israeligovernment has decided it will besimpler to have only a list of what isnot allowed This way there is noconfusion and the world can see thatIsrael has no intentions to denyGazans needed goods Again

everything that is not on thepublished list of banned materials(grenades and rifles etc) will passthrough any and all Israeli-operatedcrossings The policy of liberalizing the entryof civilian goods into Gaza is meantto enable the civilian population toengage in routine economic andcivilian activity while simultaneouslypreventing the entry of weapons andmateriel that could help the Hamasterror regime to strike at Israelicitizens Any civilian product that isnot on the list of prohibited items willbe allowed in As for ldquodual userdquo items or goodsthat can be used either for civilianprojects or terrorism Israel will allowthem entry to Gaza With the help ofinternational bodies Israel is creatinga system in which ldquodual userdquo goodssuch as raw metals and chemicals willbe delivered with assurances fromthird parties that its destination is notHamas but the people of Gaza Toensure the safety and prosperity of thePalestinian people living in Gazaefforts must be made to ensure thatHamas does not hijack incoming aidwhich has been happening on a dailybasis Said Robert Serry special envoy ofthe United Nations Secretary-General ldquoThis targeting [by Hamas]of NGOs including UN partnerorganizations is unacceptableviolating accepted norms of a free

In a single year Obama lost thesupport of independent voters andliberal Republicans by passing theleftrsquos agenda And this year he iswell on the way to losing the supportof the left for not passing enough oftheir agenda Being too left wing formainst ream America and toomainstream for the left is not a newproblem for the Democratic party Itrsquosa problem theyrsquove faced since whathad been the counterculture becamethe party establishment But itrsquos aspecial problem for the man who roseto power as the poster child of theleft Barack Hussein Obama 2008 was the leftrsquos big moment Itschance to seize control of theDemocratic party and through it all ofA m e r i c a T h e p r o g r e s s i v eradicalization of liberalism hadallowed the left to mainstream itsideas within the partyThe 8 years ofthe Bush Administration had alsoallowed the left to be in the vanguardof the opposition which through theirgrass roots organizations funded bythe likes of Soros they made sure totranslate into also being in thevanguard of the party as a wholeTaking down Hillary who had beenpositioning herself as a conservativeDemocrat was Job 1 Picking thehorse to ride to the White House wasJob 2 The main two contenders were JohnEdwards and Barack Obama InitiallyEdwards looked like the bettercandidate to sell America on the leftrsquosagenda by wrapping it up in thesugary rhetoric of compassion withsome obligatory JFK New Frontierhomages But to many Edwardsseemed like yet another version ofBill Clinton a Southern Democratwho spoke the progressive languagebut had enough realpolitik to draw theline at his own political welfare Andas it turned out Edwards shared yetanother of Clintonrsquos proclivitiesw h i c h m a d e h i m p o l i t i c a l l yunsuitable Obama was a bigger riskbut he came with ldquodeep backingrdquofrom luminaries like Ayers The onlyobstacle for the party was to makehim seem mainstream enough to beelectable Which they did bywrapping him in the flag at everyopportunity and keeping his rhetoricfocused away from specifics andtoward high minded generalities The left thought it had its candidateSo did the party Both spent a greatdeal of money to put him in the WhiteHouse but neither of them reallyspent very much time thinking aboutwho Barack Hussein Obama reallywas Obamarsquos native instincts as theeternal outsider allowed him to wearnumerous disguises And so he hadno really trouble finessing a new setof dual identities as both a radical

and a moderate at the same time Butthe problem with maintainingcontradictory identities is that sooneror later you have to commit Theagenda of the left and that of the partywere not completely incompatibleBoth for example wanted socializedmedicine and cap and trade But themain priority for the Democraticparty leadership was getting to powerand staying there For the lefthowever the agenda always comesfirst And both naturally assumed thatObama shared their priori t ies Careerism for the party And ideologyfor the left What neither of them considered wasthat Obama was even more of a fraudthan Edwards or Clinton BecauseObama was not just hiding mere runof the mill political hypocrisy orpersonal infidelity he was living a liein a much more profound wayPoliticians commonly pretend to careabout things to appeal to voters ButObama had been pretending to careabout things all his life He had spentthe better part of his life playing thechameleon and this made him anatural politician but underneath allthat was a coldness and detachmentthat exceeded that of any normalpoli t ician Obama had learnedquickly that identity is more definedby the things you care about than thecountry you come from or the colorof your skin There was only oneproblem he didnrsquot care about any ofthose things He cared only abouthimself The administration that Obama puttogether was a compromise Clintonpeople out front and the radicals justbehind them The Clinton peoplewere there to reassure the party butoften they had titles but not realpower or access The radicals werethere to reassure the left thateverything was going according toplan Obama came into office with ahalo and golden wings surrounded bypropaganda more worthy of NorthKorea than the United States ofAmerica The left assumed that thiswould give him unlimited powerSaner Democrats knew better andassumed that the White House didtoo What followed was the usualldquoPigs at the Troughrdquo scene as thevictors dug in and began feeding off

the crisis Stimulus and bailouttakeover and take home checks For Obama it was an endless partyan extension of his campaign but withmore stature and a bigger budgetPlane trips anywhere he wantedVacation homes Glamorous partiesand dinners The DC party circuitthat had been moribund during 8years of Bush was back with avengeance For his associates it wasa chance to cash in For the left itwas about pushing their agenda theirway Everyone was acting as if theyhad won the Superbowl when whatthey had really won was a chance tobe responsible for a major economiccrisis And internally no one washappy Obama had protected himselfby playing divide and conquersetting up conflicts within hisadministration while he stood backand let them fight it out Thisaggravated the existing fault lineswithin the Democratic camp andcreated the appearance of an absenteelandlord Democratic party insiders began tosee Obama as oddly distant and an e o p h y t e l a c k i n g i n b a s i cmanagemen t sk i l l s The l e f tm e a n w h i l e w a s b e c o m i n gincreasingly irritated because theywerenrsquot getting their way oftenenough The left wanted radicalchange while party politicianswanted to stay in power Obama hadto choose between two s ides Mainstream party donors who wantedstability and radical donors and theirgrass roots networks who wantedradical change A talented politicianmight have been able to keep bothsides working together Obama wasnot the man for the job And while hewas trying to keep both sides happyhe was thoroughly a l ienat ingmains t ream Americans Obamacare was when it all wentsouth as a panicked Democraticcongress was herded into supportinga wildly unpopular plan A plan thatan embittered left thought didnrsquot gofar enough but turned independentvoters into Tea Party supporters Itwas the ugliest and biggest pork piein a series of them which nobody butJoe Biden seemed happy about Alienating the left was a dangerousthing to do because they were the
