Matamoros, México has been a sister city to the United States for decades. The city is

threatened in many ways just like Oklahoma City. Absent fathers, jobless fathers, drugs, gangs, and family dissolution are hard issues. Christ offers ready solutions.

Today the Mexican army polices the streets. Gun battles erupt between the drug cartels and the military. Families starve for hope, food, and compassion.

CAREVI offers hope and solutions. Located strategically to reach the families living

in the trash dumps, the working poor, and the entire city, these men and women of

faith and power offer the grace of Jesus, the compassion of the Father, and the

insight of the Holy Spirit to change lives. Dr. Carillo, his family, and other families

sacrifice comfort to see men come from lives of destruction to productive community

citizens in the men’s living center. Their extended families are made whole. The

men’s center is crucial. The church and congregation provide the needed

environment of life change. The neighborhood outreaches give love and hope.

Churches and businesses and individuals in Oklahoma City have formed an alliance

and compassionate connection with CAREVI and Matamoros.

In December offering is taken with Christmas gifts to the many children and

assistance with food and funds to support ongoing construction for the church and

women’s center. Collection boxes are placed in many churches for toys, coats, and

food. Individuals and businesses are committed funds for construction and living

expenses for the men. Back to school is another busy time with school supplies

We would love to add your congregation or business or you personally to the list.

Your giving now provides a place of comfort and refuge for the

children and families of Matamoros. Alongside the men’s recovery

has grown up a vibrant congregation. This roof is new because of

your giving. They now have a place to worship. Much is still to be

done. This is a huge event.

This year the response was so great, there was just

enough for the children.

T

2012 Update One of our greatest joys has been the extension of

ministry into the colonias or neighborhoods. In the last two

years we have been going into the mud and paved street

areas of the city outside of the congregation. A great

success has been the colonia home outreach support by

Maricioz Gracia and his family. Maricioz was originally a

man in the recovery center. He now is a leader in the

congregation. In this colonia, the president has been

converted and he helps with all efforts. He is a man

greatly in love with Jesus.

Dr. Carillo continues to minister greatly in the congregation.

In May, we held a “Factor de Amistad” focus

with parents and teens and family unity as the

focus. It was beautiful to see the touch of God

in families.

One of our great joys is the work among men in

the church and congregation. There are a total

of 17 men studying the Seven Secrets of

Effective Fathers. Some of the studies are held in a mechanic’s shop.

The material is now being integrated into a total

family study.

These men are proud of the progress as fathers and

men in the community as they study God’s word and

apply in their neighborhoods.

Your support is so necessary. Whether it is school

supplies or gifts or $dollars to help with travel and the

local congregation, it is all needed. This community is

in a war zone. It is not uncommon for military to fly

through the streets with 10 vehicles full of armed

soldiers on their way to an engagement. At night it

can be quite disturbing to see a cadre of soldiers

driving with no lights in order to surprise cartel

members.

Thank you for your love and support.
