Why ‘On Cloud9’?I chose this as my main title because it suggests a heaven-like experience as you read into the magazine. To include, the title of ‘On cloud Nine’ also represents the calm sensation felt through the magazine; the way it releases all your stress, worries and pain as if your actually in Heaven. Moreover, ‘On Cloud Nine’ is a very unisex title, it is suitable for both sexes and it does not discriminate anyone in any form or way.

Musical Genre of On Cloud9

* Chosen musical genre: My chosen musical genre is rock and R&B. Half the section of my magazine is

going to be based on rock and the other half is going to be based on R&B so that, readers who prefer R&B

to rock can easily locate to that particular music genre and vice versa.

Often people view rock as depressive, soulful kind of music but I want to add a contradiction towards its

main impression through representing the total opposite; making my magazine on the basis of being

happy and not being too serious about life.

artists I might use may be Pink and Chris Brown because, they are not too content about life and their music often expresses fun.

• Pink will be used towards the rock theme; Chris brown will be positioned towards the other theme, R&B. I think this will be an effective method because, the music genre between the two artists is easily identifiable as they are both extremely different; moreover, greater fans may well be influenced from both sides of the music genre.

Design features: The masthead may have the bold text format of Algerian in grey.

The colour schemes I’m interested in are black, white and red. Although these colours are dark and are not often used to connote happiness, the images used

and the props used will represent happiness which adds a bit of irony towards the magazine. Harris Publications, the publisher of the XXL magazine may publish my

magazine because, R&B corresponds with their musical genre well as XXL is known for promoting major R&B artists such as, Drake, Rihanna, Nas, Kendrick Lamar and

B.O.B.

However, I can’t physically get Pink and Chris Brown to be in my magazine so I might get look a likes. I will also add a logo of a red lotus to signify peace.

This third magazine draft was another idea I thought of however, the genre and the title for the magazine was completely different. Instead of Rock and R&B I might chose an easier alternative which is Pop culture.

How my case studies helped

I’ve learnt from analysing previous music magazines that, to make a celebrity signify more the celebrity should be placed in front of the masthead instead of behind it.

My case studies have also helped me realise that I shouldn’t add too much of a colour scheme because, in relation to my target audience it will appear too childish and amateur.

My case studies have also helped me recognize the importance of having a particular theme. The audience might not be attracted to the magazine if it doesn’t have an interesting theme.
