Introduction.Today I will be showing you my music magazine and explaining as to why I believe you will want to invest in it.

Briefly, the magazine itself will be of a dance/theatrical genre as throughout my research this was one of the most popular genres, along with indie. The target audience for my magazine will be for teenagers aged 16+ mainly aimed at sixth formers.By having this target audience this means that the price for my magazinecant be to expensive.

Reflect on research made.• What did it show?I asked a range of people what was their favorite genres, if theybought magazines often, where from, how much for, and morequestions like that.

• How did your research influence your magazine?By using my research I realized that the male audience werenot as interested as to what information there was just the eyecatching images, and the females were interesting in celebritiesand some where interested in musicals and said they would purchase magazines that featured them in it.

• What is it about?I have decided to call my magazine ‘Musicals of our time’ and itwill be of a theatrical genre, and Unlike other current dancetheatrical magazines such as mix mag and dancenow, my magazine is of a weekly distribution and once a monthwill have a special edition featuring a musical and how it allbegan.

Target audience profile

What is your target audience?Throughout my research I decided that I wanted the target audience to be for ‘late teens’ So the age group of 16+ would be suitable. As majority of this age group are still ineducation and most probably wouldn’t have jobs, I’ve made the pricing of them magazine reasonable to just £1.50.

Further research.

• Having a special edition of the magazine based around the theme of Burlesque I realized that all of the images and the text must be suitable. Within my research I looked at the fonts used throughout the films advertisments and I am going to try and keep that theme but change it slightly with colouring and sizing.

• The double page spread will be talking about all the music used within the film and musical itself, and how popular it is still now days, as it began in the early 18th century. The term burlesque was used throughout Europe to describe musical works in which serious and comic elements were juxtaposed or combined to achieve a grotesque effect.

• As some people would class burlesque as inappropriate I personally think that it is just another version of Jazz music and the whole concept of burlesque is very original and definitely eye catching and in order for my magazine to sell I will be needing eye catching photographs and uses of text.

• Copy Right could have been an issue as my magazine was very similar to the film, but I have acknowledged the points of copy right and I will be stating in my evaluation that I have made it clear that it is not actually Burlesque but similar.

TypographyFor the title of my magazine I will have the chosen masthead font which I used from the website

www.dafont.com

The main text within the magazine will be of a ‘Georgia’ at a appropriate size.

Any use of numerals included throughout the magazine will not be written out. For example- Price; one pound and fifty pence.

Price; £1.50

The chosen musical ‘Lust’ which I will be basing my double page spread on again the font was from the website “dafont” and it will appear in the magazine as shown.

I will continue to use these chosen fonts as it will be a form of synergy that will be kept throughout the magazine itself, synergy will also be shown through the chosen colour scheme for the

magazine.

Page 13: Magazine pitch

Photography locations and ideasThe images I will be taking for my magazine as it is based around the musical ‘Lust’ (my chosen story lines for the special edition) I will be asking my friend to model for me.

The costumes will be based around the theme of the musical.

Stage- As they would look more professional and look like they are from the show itself.

Dance studio- As the musical is about dance it would be a stereotypical location.

Green screen- As I would be able to edit the images very easily.

Page 14: Magazine pitch

Photography In order to take pictures of

the model for the magazine I have to get them to agree with the terms and conditions to make sure that they were fully aware that their photographs will be used throughout the magazine and in possible advertisements including online.

To ensure this I created a letter for them each to sign.

Page 15: Magazine pitch

Marketing. The magazine itself will be advertised in a variety ofways such as billboards, buses, TV and radio adverts

and also online.

This is how my magazine would be advertised on a billboard, with the chosen masthead, along with the appropriate colour scheme and with a front cover image used as its background to catch by passers eyes.

Throughout the marketing process I have also chosen TV advertising. I have done a simple layout of how I would like it to appear on the screen with a voice over.

Magazine advert

Bus advertisments can be shown in two different ways, and I have chosen to have my magazine represented in this form. The reason why I chose to have it advertised on a bus was because it is aimed at teenagers and majority of teenagers take the bus or drive so they are more likely to see it this way.

Also it would be advertised throughout radio stations just mentioning what its about where its available from ect.

On certain social networking sites and WebPages I will have my magazine advertised as my target audience use the internet on a regular basis.

Lift advertisements are very common in shopping malls and cinema’s ect and I think it would be a good place to advertise my magazine.

Page 16: Magazine pitch

Unique selling point As my magazine is very unique itself as the genre was found to be popular within

my research but after researching present magazines they were not that many to do with this genre, or for the target audience age group I have chosen.

My magazine will be on sale as a weekly edition, but once a month there will be a special edition focusing on one musical directly.

With every weekly magazine there will be mini contests within the magazine and ‘Freebies’ but on the monthly edition they will be chances to win tickets to go see shows up in the west end of London and also to go back stage and meet the actors and too see how it all works.

Also with my magazine I will be having a single calendar week every six months giving you the chance to apply to subscribe to the magazine at a discount price and free postage for 1 year.

Publisher

Chosen publisher- IPC

About the company- IPC Media produces over 60 iconic media brands, with print alone. IPC Media publishes a huge range of magazines and websites across many different sectors.

So why IPC – I have chosen IPC as my publisher as they already publish a range of music magazines a I think that because mine is of a different genre it would be a good investment.

On their music page on their website it states “continuing to bring you the very best in new music”

Page 18: Magazine pitch

Distributor

I think that the company Emap would distribute my magazine as Emap distribute many magazines and the only younger audience music magazine that they distribute is smash hits. So I think that because my magazine is of a different genre they would distribute my magazine and for it would benefit the company also.

The privileges of having Emap as a distributor would be that i could make profit but by having a fairly unknown company as my distributor could effect the audience buyers per unit.

List of magazines was found on, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EMAP

Page 19: Magazine pitch

Where will you be able to purchase the magazine?

As the target audience is at teenagers, they would be able to buy the magazine at their local newsagents as the magazine will only be UK based.

Another way was for sixth forms to actually sell the magazine in the school library.

Also big branded super markets such as Tesco and Sainsbury's will stock the magazine after the magazine has been available for a month.
