I visited Budapest in November 2012 to visit the grave of my husband’s Hungarian Jewish family. We discovered that anti-Semitism is still very much alive in Eastern Europe.
I wrote ‘One Day In Budapest’ as an action-adventure thriller that portrays a chilling possible future. These slides
portray the sites included in the story.
Dohany Street Synagogue, Budapest
Adolf Eichmann set up his office behind the rose
window in 1944, directing the establishment of the
Ghetto in Budapest. !
The Hebrew script from Exodus 25:8 reads: “And let them make me a sanctuary
that I may dwell among them.”
Memorial park to the Hungarian Jewish martyrs of the Shoah, the Holocaust. Each leaf is inscribed with a name.
The park also has tribute to Raoul Wallenberg, one of the Righteous Among Nations, who protected Jews.
Shoes on the Danube. Memorial to Jews killed by Arrow Cross militia on the banks of the river in WWII. They were asked to remove their shoes before being shot.
