My Research Told Me…

Concept of My MagazineMy magazine will have the genre of Indie Rock. It will be

based on upcoming Indie Rock bands that compete against each other to be the best. Each month there will be a new issue of my magazine published which will have details on the upcoming battles between the bands such as what bands are involved, the venue they are playing in and how they rank in the battle of the bands table. The biggest and most important battle of the upcoming month will be featured on the front of the magazine.

The publishing house I am going to use is IPC because they publish NME magazine and that magazine is similar to mine because it is the same genre.

USP

My USP of my magazine is that it uses media convergence. The ranking in the battle of the bands table will be decided by the voting of the public. The votes will be added up and will rank the bands in the table. This will be done by having a poll on social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. Also, if you sign up to the magazine website you will be sent emails asking for you to vote between two bands. Tickets will also be sold on the magazine website to see bands battle against each other. People who subscribed to the magazine monthly will get early alerts where the battles are being taken place and will automatically get a discount. On the magazine’s website you will be able to listen music by the band and watch videos of their battles and performances. From my VoxPox I found out that most people would like freebies like CD’s and posters. Therefore, with each magazine it will have a free CD of the two featured bands best track. Also I will include a poster of the two bands going face to face.

My Model

My model/s must be someone who looks like they are from the genre of Indie Rock as it is the genre I am using for my magazine. This is because when they are seen on the front cover the reader will automatically know the genre of my magazine. I will use male models as they are more likely to like the genre of Indie Rock than females are. I will dress my models using clothes that represent Indie Rock so the reader can easily see that the magazine is about this genre. The facial expressions of the model/s are also important because they can be used to recognize the genre of the magazine. I will have the models using serious and angry expressions which will represent the genre of Indie Rock easily. They will also have different expressions to each other because I found out from my research that it is more interesting. To clearly separate the two bands being featured on the front cover I will make them wear different coloured clothes for each other. For example, have one band wear blue and one band red. The colours I use will clearly represent the genre of Indie Rock.

Potential Locations

For my photo shoot I wish to use a location which will clearly represent what the magazine about and what the genre is. Using the school production stage for the photo shoot may be good because it clearly tells you that the magazine is about a performance of some sort. I could also use the music room where a drum kit can be found. I could have my model playing drums which will tell you what the magazine is about and the genre. I may choose just to take my photos against a plan coloured wall so I can easily Photoshop the image onto a background.

I will advertise my magazine mainly online through Facebook or Twitter because there will be many interactive features online to do with the magazine. I will also advertise using billboards showing the latest battle between two bands.

Where and How Much

My magazine will be sold in retail stores like ‘Tesco’ and music shops like ‘HMV’ which already supply magazines that are similar to mine. You will also be able to purchase my magazine online by signing up for a monthly prescription. I will base my magazine at £3-£4 per issue as that is the price of magazines similar to mine. Also the amount of text and the image I will use are conventional to a magazine of that price.
