Include standards, plan and principles
• energy efficiency in design and construction of new housing
• use of renewable energy resources
• LEED/USGBC /FGBC (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design/US Green Building Council/Florida Green Building Coalition)
Why are these requirements critical?
Global climate change must be fought atlocal level - Florida State Legislature- HB 697
Global warming is unequivocal: Increase air and ocean temperatures
Rising sea level
Widespread melting of snow and ice
Why are these requirements critical?
CO2 emissions accounts for 92% of GHG 46% of
Florida’s CO2
emissions
Transportation Sector
Why are these requirements critical?
Travel mode to work
Reduce Transportation contribution to Climate Change Reduce CO2 Emissions
Recognize Link between Land Use - Transportation
Land Use Patterns affects Vehicle Miles Traveled

FUTURE LAND USE Encourage
improvement and redevelopment of older properties
Encourage LEED*/USGBC* green building standards- Provide incentives-
19
Consider adopting Transit Oriented Development Zoning Overlay (TODO) promoting rail station
TRANSPORTATION Support various modes of
transportation Encourage public transit
use, bicycle, pedestrian paths - support proposed multi-modal overlay
Coordinate with local transit service providers and local municipalities the City’s transit initiatives
Recognize direct link between public transit, land use, workforce housing, and economic development

21
HOUSING Promote affordable and
workforce housing to sustain a balanced community and economic growth
Promote sustainable and energy efficient standards for housing
Encourage housing and supportive services for elderly and special needs residents
Essential Service Personnel- household income: 140% of annual median income ($85,680)- teachers, nurses, police and fire personnel, planners, retail service, etc.
CONSERVATION Maintain
development regulations to manage water resources for development and redevelopment
Encourage environmentally sustainable City
Reduce CO2 emissions
Add energy efficient buildings and recycling guidelines to Land Development Regulations
