HS2 Ltd’s latest business case contains £7.7bn of cuts to existing rail services which help pay for the new line.

HS2 will link just four city centres-Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham and London.

Virgin trains are only 52% full in the peak and intercity standard class capacity can be tripled – by longer trains, less 1st class and solving pinchpoints on the line.
