A recent release of data by the Australian Bureau of Statistics indicates that the mining and resources industries look positive despite a drop in employment.

Large numbers of new job vacancies in the Australian Mining and Metals Association illustrate high recruitment opportunities for skilled and technical workers in the resources sector.

Some of the highest demand remain for engineers, maintenance workers, designers and drafters, machinery operators and skilled trade workers.

One of the key players in the resources sector, after coal mining, is the coal seam gas industry.

The gas industry alone has sparked about 30,000 jobs in the last year.

The Queensland Gas Company (QGC) has been hiring approximately 15 people daily for the last six months as they become the country’s first LNG exporter. QGC and its contractors currently employ 11,600 people.

The Santos GLNG project has also created about 6,800 jobs. 

According to a recent news article in the Courier Mail, job vacancies were up by 5% in Queensland in the resources sector.

The CSG/LNG industry is building a highly skilled workforce which will continue to deliver on large resource projects. Investments in this industry are currently worth more than $60 billion plus.

It is also predicted that the LNG boom in Australia will lift Australia from the fourth largest LNG producer to the first, making way for more employment in Australia and larger investments.
