T h e l o g o o f M i n i s t r y o f I d e a sThe logo derives from Democritus’ definition of the word idea. Democritus was a pre-Socratic Philosopher born in Abdera in the north of Greece ca. 460 BC. Democritus believed that everything was built from one and the same material and he used theword idea for these building blocks of the universe, these particles that are only different concerning shape and arrangement.

The logo is built from two symbols. A lightbulb, wich is commonly understood as the symbol for idea, according to my research and the atom wich is an Idea according to Democritos theory. The atomic symbol also has links to various fields of science and technology.

The rings around the lightbulb are symbolic for the different paths members of the Minstry of Ideas are on. Where these pathsintersect a great idea (the lightbulb) is pulled into existence. The blue particle is symbolic for the individual.

Ministry of Ideas is a nonprofit fellowship of creative individuals on various fields, for that reason the logo is light and colourful.

Co l o u r sThese are the logos CMYK values.

From: [email protected] (Linus Benedict Torvalds) Newsgroups: comp.os.minix Subject: What would you like to see most in minix? Summary: small poll for my new operating system Message-ID: <[email protected]> Date: 25 Aug 91 20:57:08 GMT Organization: University of Helsinki Hello everybody out there using minix – I'm doing a (free) operating system (just a hobby, won't be big andprofessional like gnu) for 386(486) AT clones. This has been brewingsince april, and is starting to get ready. I'd like any feedback onthings people like/dislike in minix, as my OS resembles it somewhat(same physical layout of the file-system (due to practical reasons)among other things). I've currently ported bash(1.08) and gcc(1.40), and things seem to work. This implies that I'll get something practical within a few months, andI'd like to know what features most people would want. Any suggestionsare welcome, but I won't promise I'll implement them :-) Linus ([email protected]
