DESCRIPTION

(Sorry for repeat on the front slide--it seems to be a hiccup within SlideShare that I can't get rid of.) These are the alternate slides from my Ignite Seattle talk from December 2nd, 2009. --These were my "safety" slides that I didn't use. I talked about how many Americans use online "gov2.0" tools that don't work very well, and how simple tactics can work to increase political power and influence on legislation. I wrestled with using this set of slides. They conveyed my points better, but were less entertaining and weren't very engaging. Compare the two sets and let me know what you think! And while you're at it, please vote for Knowledge As Power on Chase Givings' contest --the top 100 vote getters will receive a $25,000 grant (enough to help KAP provide robust legislation-tracking services and civic education in Seattle) and $1 million to the 1st place winner (enough for KAP to expand to 5 states, 5 cities, in 3 years!). Social Media Limitations

✤ Comments on blogs, OpenCongress, etc. aren’t read (often) by legislators.

✤ Twitter can’t confirm you’re a constituent.

✤ Allows for low-quality communications.

✤ Doesn’t account for a legislature’s process or resources.
